This forum has been invaluable over the last few weeks while I've been getting to know the new Rangy!

Well my first 3 weeks of ownership was as expected... I've been working through all the jobs that should have been done by previous owners as they occurred or wouldn't have happened if it had been maintained right. It's a 2004 V8 L322 with 106k on the clock

Jobs done already:
Driver side rear view mirror replaced
Steering angle sensor repaired
Oil and filter change
Air filter
Transfer box oil
Tow bar fitted (which lead to the next item)
Welded rear box back on...
Fuel gauge repair (wire needed soldering)
Wiper blades
Bonnet Struts
Replaced wheels and tyres
2 x wheel speed sensors

It's already much better but still needs:
Lower control arms
Fuel filter
Spark plugs (which I didn't do at the time because of the next item)
Rocker cover gaskets

The only surprise has been the ABS ECU, the wheel sensor swap didn't solve the problem so I checked the connectors and sure enough there were green deposits around a couple of pins, looks like I'll be sending it down to ECU testing for a rebuild.

On the plus side the suspension seems to be spot on, it's currently inactive but all sensors are working fine on the diagnostics so I'm hoping it's the ABS that's throwing it out

After all that I'll see what else it needs - any guesses as to what it will be? Lol

ref your ABS ecu, have a go yourself. I had all the lights come on and took to to my local LR MD. After 45 mins they came back out and sucking their teeth said "Its gonna need a new ABS ECU - that's £1000 please!" I went out to the car and saw they hadn't even taken off the plug to the ECU (which is the cr@ppiest design and sits upside down so it HOLDS WATER! )

Anyhow, saw, like you, a couple of green deposits on some of the pins. Toothbrush, some contact cleaner and never had another problem even 7 yeas later (now on 190,00 miles).

So save yourself some dosh and gan yersen pal!!

Ps I reckon it will be chain guides next ? !

Thanks Dolphinboy, I have cleaned it all up, reattached everything and cleared the codes just to see but I noticed one pin was pretty loose too so I'm not holding out too much hope. It's £155 + VAT for a full refurb so it's not too bad even if it does throw the faults again.

Good call on the chain guides, I'll work my way through till I know it's as good as it can be.

Oh I forgot that I didn't change the gearbox oil as the filler plug was rounded off, I have a new plug now so the chisel can come out to play! I'm hoping that means it's been serviced before but it'll get an oil change then an oil and filter change in a month or so too.

Thought I'd update things a bit, turns out it wasn't the ABS ECU after all. I checked the ABS ring and it had come off the hub so when I did the lower arms I fitted a new one and now have a fault free Range Rover!

Still plenty to do but I should have checked the ABS ring when I first had the wheel sensor off so thought it was worth posting about that
