So I think I've found a 4.4 TDV8 I'm willing to buy. It's not perfect, the paint is very scuffed being a farmer's vehicle but it's relatively low mileage (<70k) and honest.

However, it's a Range Rover which is why I was originally looking at buying from a dealer to get a decent warranty, and this is a private sale. So I'll be looking to buy a warranty for it. The question is which one? Motor Easy seem to be the ones with the most visibility at the moment but they don't seem to cover DPF's which in the 4.4 is definitely a consideration. The others which *seem* to be decent are WarrantyWise and Warranty Direct. Any options I've missed, or any personal experiences of aftermarket warranties outside a trader?

What year and L405 or L322?

D'oh, that would help. It's a 2012 L322 Vogue so one of the last. Seems to have been reliable for the last 8 years which means that either it's reliable or all the bills are waiting in the wings

I didn't actually realise this was a section, hence posting in General. Thanks for the pointer towards the disco forums; it would indeed appear that WW is not worth the paper it's written on and WD is decent.

Has anyone on here ever used one of the warranties? I'm looking at the potential of a 2yr warranty with capped labour rates and 20% parts contribution - given most of the big costs in getting a garage to replace something is labour, and 2k to get a new engine or gearbox isn't the world's biggest drama (and relatively unlikely), it makes the price comparable with a 0% contribution and uncapped labour warranty which was only for one year.

In the last 7 years, I've only ever had 1 claim approved from WarrantyWise, and only ever had 1 claim rejected by Warranty Direct, and that was down to customers level of cover

Thanks, that's definitely a little bit of reassurance! Out of interest, what's your knowledge of service history (invoices etc) and its effects on WD? This one has all the stamps in the book from both LR and then a specialist, but no invoices. My Impreza was like that, and then I've not got a single stamp in the last seven years but have 2" of receipts and invoices! Will they frown upon invoices in the event of a claim?

As long as there is a stamp or an invoice to say its been serviced, they are fine with that

Capped/Uncapped labour will entirely depend if you intend going to a main dealer for repairs, or an indy, the former being MUCH more expensive

20% contribution to parts, as you say, worst case will be a couple of £k for a new engine.

Check the oil cooler gaskets in the back of the "V" having removed engine cover and pollen box. A lot seem to "go" at that mileage. Gaskets and/or oil rings perish. Manifests itself as oil in back of V, down the bellhousing and drips off rear of engine tray. Plus you'll smell it!
