To be fair, when the new Sport came out, I saw one in that burnt orange colour with a black roof, and thought it looked well. Not sat in one though, or even an L405 for that matter, but I think the cockpit feels smaller. Think it’s something you’d prob like to have a drive in, but then realise how much you liked your fatty. You can see from my car list I’m a BMW guy too, so if I wanted sporty, it would have to beat a BM....

It is a BMW, a totally original Z3 on a 51 plate. Owned by another neighbour who isn’t really into cars, so it’s rarely washed and I’d bet has never been polished in his ownership of at least 5 years. Looks tidy and straight all the same, with appropriate ageing. |

Like this? When I was buying I looked at both the FFRR and Sport, but couldn't find a petrol FFRR in the right colour at the right price, so settled on the Sport. Quite tempted by an SV Autobiography for the extra load space if the right one comes up, having test-driven one just before lockdown. Not a lot of difference in the front between the 494 and the 405. They're the same width, though the 405 has about 2" more headroom- not that the 494 is lacking in that area. In fact I was surprised at how little difference in comfort there was between the two, expecting the Sv Autobiography to be way ahead. |

Mrs S and I were invited to a launch event for the L494 at Gaydon, where they let me loose on the test track in a 5.0 sc in that colour. Martin Donnelly the ex Lotus GP driver was my allocated ‘Stig’ who told me to just plant my right foot. Awesome!

After six full fats I had a brief experience with a Velar, dreadful car, and now have a 2018 Sport AB, very comfortable and tows very well, more stable than any of the full fats.
