Mass air flow

Hi I have a l322 tdv8 have been very happy with it although it's a little thirsty.the other day my wife took it out and was caught in torrential rain this put the engine light on lost power, car in limp. Fault code suggest maf sensors a and B . Didn't think this was the case so took out head light to check wires then wheel liner . Then brought two second hand sensors as found no problems with wirering . Fitted sensors still got the same fault . Suction on hoses seems good if hand over them both engine stall.
Any body come across this suggestions where to look next. Thanks
