New satnav update 2020/2021

Just spotted that this is now available from LR - for my car, £169 for a USB stick. I see also 'other' sites selling for £89...

it would be interesting to know if the other site is selling genuine map updates and is making less markup on the product... ... - .- -.

It would, Stan. I must confess to using 'other' discs on my old 322, which were perfect, but I'd be more anxious on the HDD system and Censored it up!

As an alternative, I use TomTom on my phone connected with Apple CarPlay. It’s about £20 a year and includes traffic info.

If you don’t have Apple CarPlay then it still works well on a phone mounted on the passenger air vent.

Been using TomTom for years and can’t recommend it highly enough. MY23 D350 HSE

i use a vent mounted chinese 7'' nav as my main when in euroland as it is easily updatable to the newest mapping..

the FF nav is zoomed out so we can see where 'on the map' we are ... ... - .- -.

Isn’t there a way to DIY ? Mentioned on the forum before.

SWMBO is honorary co-pilot. Includes the job of setting destination, often confused and hates new roads showing us in green fields etc etc etc ... Constantly curses the JLR system against her much superior BMW sat nav. I haven’t updated as a) I would Censored it up , but more importantly , copilot insists on a new map and that means a new car.... who am I to argue? Rolling with laughter Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

He who dies with the most toys wins...

Good direction to the dark side (the RRS forum), Stan! Following suggestions there, I have successfully updated. It's the Here update but £50 cheaper compared to LR. Said it would take 2 hours and 46 minutes, which it did - and didn't really matter as I was stuck in terrible traffic driving home yesterday. Thumbs Up

The place I have bought mine from in the past now has it as well.

It is Vin coded and they need the vin to obtain the code so it works. Not a cheap knock off really at £120, but less than LR.

Tempted but still undecided as last time I used the nav I ended up on a tour of Dorset back lanes with a caravan in tow......

Have just bought a MAP! Much easier. Remember how those work. You plan the route then follow the road signs...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

i've always said that with a sat nav, a map , reading road signs and common sense you'll never get lost... ... - .- -.

Got me a map update, couldn’t Resist.....

Anyway, went through the install as per the instructions.

I happened to get mine from LR via Here, and you have to make sure it’s activated on the web portal to get the activation key which I aparently didn’t do and there wasn’t one with the doodad, but I logged on and there was an option to put in the VIN after the dongle arrived. It duly gave me the code.

Anyway after the download had finished I didn’t have any maps. PANIC..... I had all the buttons, and the car knew where I was but no maps.

Then I remembered the powerfulluk chaps did a map install video. They had the same issue. The solution is to lock the car, leave it 1/2 hour or so then try again.

Maps now restored. 👍🏻 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
