I’ve given up caring.

But I very rarely fill up at a supermarket. I won’t drive the extra miles for the sake of saving a couple of quid.

Just use my local Texaco garage as its most convenient. They don’t have a super diesel pump just regular diesel.

I put their 97ron in the M3 because it gets filled up once a month and it seems to run a bit better on it, I have put the Tesco 99 Ron in and it’s a bit better, which is the same octane rating as shell, but BP do a 102 octane fuel...... might drive to get a few gallons of that next time I need to put some in to give it a go...

Pays your money makes your choice. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

When we had the ill fated SC, it was nothing but V Power.. then someone told me don’t put it in all the time, it’ll be counterproductive. Not as precious as to what diesel supplier it is anymore, usually buy based on nearest fuel station location, although do make a point of putting VPower in now and again... so maybe still a bit precious 😂🥱

Emissions requirements are different in different markets - there are Range Rovers built for African markets which only meet Euro 2 emissions standards, ones for parts of South America which meet Euro 4 etc.

Aside from the detergents, some premium diesel has a higher cetane rating too, although quantifying the benefit seems difficult.

This was the original post - how did we move on to whether or not cars meet various emission standards and how is it relevant? Censored fuel is Censored fuel regardless of wether your car is Euro 2,3,4,5 or 6 the good news is it's not possible to buy Censored fuel in the UK. Geoff

Actually no, fuel is not fuel - pre-euroXX diesel engines were designed to use diesel with sulpha to lubricate the pump & fuel system, also IIRC to preserve the seals.
One of the reasons why people with "old" diesels add some two-stroke oil to their fuel.
Diesel has changed over my motoring lifetime - virtually no (if any) sulpha in it at all thesedays & a certain amount of bio.

So, we can start arguing about additives now that the steam is running out of this thread. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

The point is that cars are not designed to work in every market - there are regulatory differences which mean different emissions controls. There are also relevant differences in fuel quality around the world.

The additives in more expensive diesel are the most relevant difference in the UK.

Back in the day, when I had my S max (diesel), we went to France dragging a 5 berth caravan behind. I filled up with "cheap" French supermarket fuel when I got over the channel. I thought the car was running a bit rough with a fair bit of smoke being emmited from the exhaust. Once I got back home the car became smoother after I filled up at my "local" supermarket! Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)

When I did a period of lorry driving, on the return to the yard you filled up at a certain Shell garage for regular only (I tried to get the points but the guy laughed and said discount had already been applied Whistle ). All his trucks were remapped but equally it may be an accounting thing. Personally I use just Shell regular with a very rare treat of V-Power diesel. In my nerdy world if I’ve thrown in Morrisons diesel in the car, it is fine but MPG drops by a couple of miles. visiting from www.rrsport.co.uk
