Performance air filters ?

Are they worth it ?
Mine tdv8 has stage 1 , egr delete , dpf delete , my mapper recommend a k&n air filter to finish it off ... just wanted to ask people's opinions on this on a tdv8 2007 rr sport ?

I just wouldn’t bother, it will make more induction noise and everybody will hear it (unless that’s what you want). Also ask any Turbo overhaul company if a turbo has had a free flowing air filter and they’ll show the compressor blades Big Cry . Save your cash and buy a takeaway. visiting from www.rrsport.co.uk

I'll endorse what others have said.

My last vehicle (a VW Transporter) running around 200bhp made around 1/4 BHP more (& loads more noise) back to back with a standard filter on a rolling road.

IMHO K & N's were fine in the days of Escort Mexicos where you had no turbo to worry about & you never heard the extra induction noise (unless you were running a couple of sidedraught Webbers) because of the noise from the exhaust. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

We have an induction kit on our Audi TT Track day car... Its running 300+ hp and the induction noice and subsequent hiss's and woosh's from the turbo & waistgate would drive you potty on the road!

On another note, we have been told more than once by our engine mappers to strongly dissuade customers from changing panel filters to anything else but factory standard... Thumbs Up

A common opinion about K&N is that they will finish your engine off! Laughing Ron B. VK2OTC

There was a test a few years ago on performance air filters, the old genuine original filters of 20 years ago did restrict flow and a K&N or Pipercross had much better flow....

Modern original filters however were far better at air flow and ALL the ones tested flowed more than a K&N or Pipercross..!!

Original filters were more effective at filtering as well...!

As has been said the oil from a K&N can wreck your cars sensors on the inlet tract.

So don't bother unless you like a nice intake noise and you are probably better off just throwing the filter out than replacing it with a sports one..!! Pete
