France 2011 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Ipanema Sand
2011 TDV8 VOGUE gearbox service?

Hello everyone,

I'm a proud owner of a 2011 TDV8 ipanema sand FFRR and I really love it!
No issues till i bought it at 90.000 kms at the end of 2016.
All services done at Range Rover.
It has 151.500 kms today, and I have to do its annual service.
Usual price at Range Rover is around 900€ for oil & filters
This time, they say I must add gearbox : they change gearbox casing, fluids for....750€ more
This is very expensive and so the service will cost me 1.800€ this year.

My question is: do I have to change this? Some say yes, some others no
I must say that I had no gearbox problem up to now.
Thanks for your answers Bow down

Fatzo

they won't be cheap but worth checking.

a quality independent could also do it for you.

It is definitely worth doing. As far as I can recall the ZF centres aren’t too expensive.

It’s not a difficult thing to do, if you follow the instructions...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

thanks for your answers

Called ZF in Anthony (south of Paris)

We talked a bit about the need to do it or not

They advise to do it, for the 8 gears box, at 150.000 kms max

Price: 650€ A bit cheaper

So I might consider doing a "classic" year service at 900€ then later that year a full gearbox flush at 650€

My father still thinks its useless to do it.... Exclamation

What do you think?

Thanks a lot

Fatzo

Simple. LR say sealed for life. ZF say change the oil.
Change the oil.
I did my 8 speed at 85K miles and 8 years. No issues before or after. Had it Megaflushed. No filter change and no adaptations reset. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Dr Rob: interesting about your megaflush. I bought my 4.4 TDV8 last September on 87k, first thing I had done was big service (all oils) & a megaflush. Same as you, no problems before & none after.
She's booked in for her annual service first week in September & ive asked for the gearbox oil & filter to be changed this time round. They looked bemused that I want a filter change just after a megaflush, that's where my OCD kicks in, thinking being that she's never had a filter so it can't do any arm? Their argument was that the megaflush flushed the filter as well, I'm not totally convinced as my thoughts are that after I've finished, it'll have a complete flush and the added bonus of a new filter..........any thoughts on my madness? I thought the box was a serviceable item?

Just had mine done although the box only had 2k miles on it. I can definitely feel an improvement 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)

Can't comment on the filter I'm afraid. I followed the advice of the great Bodsy Thumbs Up Rolling with laughter
Are you planning for a new filter and just a normal drop and fill or new filter then a Megaflush after Question Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

No, mega flush was done last September & she's covered about 3k miles since.
This Sept I thought drop the filter & top up. The Indy kept saying that the mega flush I had done would clean/clear the filter anyway [got a point] but me being me, belt'n'braces, measure three times cut once, all the tins in the cupboard with labels facing front.....possibly a little OCD says 'filter change'.
I could pm Bodsey I suppose or just get on with it! Laughing

It's medication time, I'm off.

ps GGDR thanks. Thumbs Up 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

If a mega flush cleans the filters I guess it must ‘back wash’ the filters? Is this correct? 2011 TDV8 4.4 AB Bournville Brown
