Welcome on board Slow Progress. Every bit of advice in this thread is spot on. I’m the one whose posted a similar thread, budget of £13k etc etc. There is every possible bit of info you want on this forum that could relate to a 4.4 and all of its potential issues. I’ve seen a fair few dogs on my search.

Lots of good info in the Wiki and lots and lots of threads on here. You’ll get a good idea of what to look for and don’t be afraid to ask questions. History and condition were my key pointers. Cooled seats was the one extra undecided I really wanted but then I was happy to forget that for the right condition car with good history.

Keep us posted on the hunt. You’ll find one in the end. I’m going to view one tomorrow and I’m hoping it’s the one as I’m fed up of looking at lemons!!

On another note, I've got a Series 3 too Slow Progress.

I bought a project L322 at the other end of the price (and condition) spectrum and I’m slowly bringing her back up to scratch. Would I do it again? Probably not, it’s a gamble and in another 12 months and xxxx pounds I would have spent the equivalent of what a sorted one would have cost! Buy the best you can afford, if from an enthusiast with a pile of history then all the better, even if it has slightly higher miles.

We’re going to look at these 3 next week assuming that they don’t sell in the meantime;

How can you tell if turbo oil drain mod is done? Only on a test drive above 2500rpm? Or can you see it visibly?

Usually if it boots out a load of smoke when you floor it means it needs doing. You can crawl underneath and just about see if it's been done but it's not easy. You'd have to look for threads on the subject on here for more info.
Mine has not had the mod and it doesn't smoke but I always give it some "therapy" everytime I drive it once warmed up. That's stops any oil potentially building up. Seat covers are your friend. Tinman’s looks a great car.

Afraid not.... my other half insists ondark interior and she won’t have seat covers! If it were just me I’d consider it but orders are orders and it’s not going to be my car at the end of this, I’ll still have my company car a 2018 Mercedes E220D which has been good to me so far 57mpg real world! and 62mpg on a long steady run.
