It sounds like the next genre ration will have BMW engines.

Not a bad thing, I’ve just come out of a couple of years in a 750i and the 4.4 V8 is superb. It’s witchcraft how it would do 40mpg on a long motorway run if you kept it to 80mph and despite being RWD, would get to 60mph in 4.5 seconds.

Why would JLR want to buy in any engines when they’ve spent so much time and money developing their own modular range of engines, have capacity to spare and have been wanting to remove dependence on other manufacturers for years?

I read somewhere that JLR had bought the rights to the 5.0 V8 and were going to produce it in an engine plant in the UK.

I’m not sure I can let that pass, a Diesel engine produces more mpg than petrol..

In heavily polluted areas a diesel Euro 6 engine will emit cleaner air than it takes in due to filters.

Euro 6 Diesel, emits less nasties than a petrol engine .

Diesel has been demonised by a crowd of tree huggers, looking at the older engines & not the modern technology. The biggest shame is that. R&D will cease as they have a limited time span, ie until 2032/5 . Why invest in a cleaner more efficient future if there is no future?

Emissions analytics has details.

Best. Bill Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

They are building a V8 manufacturing line.

The question is what they will build there.

The Ford Bridgend V8 assembly line is at end of life, so continuing is not an option.

Could just be for Jaguar as the current model range is designed to take that engine? They would leave it in the Velar as well and migrate over to BMW engines as they bring out completely new models. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

2019 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Aintree Green

Given that Defender prototypes are currently running around with 5 litre V8s in them, it seems safe to assume that they’ll be building that in-house for the short term (presumably at least until the next RR arrives next year). Assume the BMW link-up V8 will be the next generation of 4.4 twin turbo - makes sense to have a partner also using it, because that will be a niche engine for BMW.
