The strap has the bolt that should screw in the lower tailgate but there is nothing to screw into, just a hole. |

As I said, pretty sure it's a captive bolt which must have come off....

Yes I realised it was a captive nut but if it's sheered off it may require sorting at the garage rather than my just buying a replacement part, thought someone might know for sure that's all. I would post a picture but there really isn't much to see, just a hole! I'll ring LR parts tomorrow and see if they've got a diagram and can tell me. Thanks. |

Had the same problem when I replaced my tailgate straps - the nut came off on one side. If you remove the plastic trim along the top of the tailgate (the screws are fairly obvious) then you can get behind the carpet, find the nut rattling round inside the tailgate somewhere, then hold the nut in place while you screw the strap back in. |
