unless policy at GAP has changed - or until someone knows different - you can use it on all cars, but you need the Bluetooth model I think

Pcourtney, thank you for that. The manual that is in the wiki is great but it doesn’t mention whether it has to be “activated” before it can even be used. I get the feeling it might have to be, no idea why, just a hunch. I’d love to be proved wrong! |

You can indeed use it to scan and clear faults and a car that the tool doesn’t have a VIN license for, I did exactly what you are suggesting when I picked up my latest D3 project. |

Cheers Jamie. Did you have to register or activate the tool before you could use it? It’s safe to assume then that activation then locks it to the vehicle you want to own and change settings etc? |

Cheers Rob, grand idea. I take you you picked up on the first one on the list having its own tool |

I acquired my IID tool second hand so was already activated when I bought it, but when I had done the transfer of ownership and then subsequently changed cars GAP haven’t charged me to transfer my license between cars so I think you will be ok, but as suggested drop GAP a email to confirm. |

I would be inclined to read the faults but not clear them. If you decide not to buy then the next person that goes to view may take a code reader and there will be no faults coming up. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE |

Cheers dennij. My thoughts were to check the codes, clear the codes, test drive, then check any codes again. But I do get your point. |

Yes it's an awkward one as you'd like to know if the faults re-occur. Perhaps if you feel after a drive that it could be the right car for you then clear the faults half way through the test drive, at least that way if they do come back you can decide to either purchase or walk away and leave the codes for someone else. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE |

I'd buy a GAP tomorrow if it were not for the fact you can only fully use it on one vehicle. For a piece of kit in this price range the changeover fee a bit excessive.

I think most people would disagree on the cost aspect of the iidtool. I think it’s very fairly priced for what it can do and if you’re in the market to be changing CCF settings on multiple cars, that pretty much implies you’re not a single user and should perhaps consider the professional version, that is unlocked for any number of vehicles.

I could not justify the cost of the professional version.
