Just in case you have not already done so, you might enjoy the Youtube films of Harry Metcalfe of "Harry's Garage" taking a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow he had bought for £4,100 on Ebay to the Arctic Circle and then to see the northern lights. I'd like to take my motorcycle to Norway, but not at a time when one can see the northern lights... Only Range Rovers since 1988 |

A clarification: the western route - west coast of Norway - is E39 (or variants around that route), via Stavanger, Bergen and Ålesund to Trondheim. E6 is via Oslo over the mountains Rondane and Dovrefjell to Trondheim. Both E6 and E39 can be driven during the winter, but with the shorter days, less daylight, I don't think that you'll get full "return" (benefit) of taking the extra distance via E39 - round the west coast of Norway. But E6 is reallly a nice route as well! I haven't driven to Tromsø myself, but know many who has. Fastest route is through Sweden, but most say that route is not very exiting, driving through woods and forests for hours and hours... Reg fuel; it shouldn't be a problem to find a petrol station when you need it if you drive the main routes. I drove a 2 days return trip from Stavanger to Ålesund (northern part of the west coast) late April - used appr 110 liter of diesel driving 1200 km these 2 days. |

If it's of interest, Harry Metcalfe (Harry's Garage on YouTube) did a pretty good 2 part video about driving an old Rolls Royce he'd bought on Ebay to Norway and the Arctic Circle:

Ah, sorry CS - I missed that you'd posted the same - I was looking at multiple screens whilst working, and clearly not paying enough attention to FFRR! |

And most importantly, Harry Metcalfe is an L322 owner. A 3.6 TDV8 iirc 2004 L322 4.4 V8 Vogue Bonatti Grey

If Harry can do it in a Roller that does 15 mpg, I'm sure I can do it in a S/C that does maybe 1 mpg more.. Pete

Sneak over to the Disco3 forum and search for posts from DSL - their road trip champion. He has a number of posts detailing road trips under taken all over Europe and a lot of ones to Scandinavia including one where the engine of his disco3 went wrong in a terminal way (not tempting any fate). I am sure he did one to Tromso or if it wasn’t Tromso it was definately very north.

I have driven to Stockholm a few times, via channel tunnel, ferry to hook of Holland and Ferry to Hamberg. I live on the south coast so these options made more sense to me.
