3D Printing - Plastic mods for your RR - ideas?

Hi all!

I haven't posted on here for a while, since selling my M62 Vogue 2 years ago, I've gone back to Disco 2s since then, but hope to get myself into a TDV8 before too long!

Anyway, I recently got into additive manufacturing or 3D printing. I've used it for years in my career, but I've been using lockdown to get used to the printing side, not just the designing side. For the first few weeks I was manufacturing visors for frontline staff, but that has all slowed right down now, and so I'm turning my attention to making more useful stuff.

I've been prototyping various ideas for mods for Disco 2s, and bouncing ideas off members of the D2BC forum, so thought I'd do similar here. To my mind, the L322 is a much more developed vehicle than the D2, but perhaps there are still some improvements to be made.

I've been designing improved cup holders for the Disco, a problem the fatty doesn't have, but I've also been designing consoles to neatly incorporate carling switches for accessories, and have plans to look at things like improved interior light pods, satnav enclosures etc.

Is there anything you'd love to fit to your Rangie? It can be any shape, any complexity, external or internal.

Excellent news. Mind you, you may find opportunities in the classic Range Rover/car parts market too where some trim are simply not available.

I'll think it over but that opens plenty of opportunities for L322 and car nuts in general.

P38s owners also lack convenient cupholders if that helps.

Do you deal with metal 3D printing? l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

great to read about this, I will have a think too, 3D printing is pretty amazing for the Classic Car market, have friends who have bought various 3D printed parts that have been unavailable for many many years, and now it is possible Smile

I'm into classics as well - I have a 1964 Austin 1100, 1966 Volvo Amazon and I'm about to start into my 1979 Volvo C202 project (look that one up!) so there are plenty of parts to make for those too.

I'll look into P38 cup holders, thanks! Anything bigger than a coke can in the Disco 2 ends up pressing the climate control buttons and getting in the way - not ideal!

I can't personally print with any metals, though at work there is the facility to do that, and carbon fibre too. It's quite something!

Have you thought about the sunglasses holder for the L405?

I've never even sat in a 405 - any pics of the part in question?

I remember my 322 having one up around the rear view mirror as standard, did they change to an extra for the 405?

What about printing a replacement outer rear wheel arch panel for a L322?

Yes, this is a serious question 🧐

As nice as it would be to sort the rusty patches, 235x235x210mm or so is the maximum size I can produce at the moment...

I've found CTC's sunglasses holder - that's very neat! It would be difficult to produce something just so sleek (I've never described a Ford part as sleek - I've used plenty of other words when removing them from PAG era Volvos though!)

France 2013 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 V8 Baltic Blue

i have built an android auto device; with a raspberry pi4 and crankshaft software
https://getcrankshaft.com
i have bought the following enclosure https://www.amazon.fr/SmartiPi-Touch-Raspb...B01HV97F64
i can put it on top of the dvd but did not find any suitable location where it is reliable
i was thinking of maybe buying 2 brodits https://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=854...;year=2013
and screwing the little axle holder to them
maybe you would have an idea to build an enclosure that fits in the FFRR. this allows to have Android Auto without touching anything on the original system

We can certainly do something with that! Should be possible to make an enclosure to tidy up the back of the unit as well as mount it.

What about replicating the plastic chrome bit on the side of the drivers seat that regularly breaks in a plastic that is more flexible Thumbs Up

I really struggle to produce anything usable in ABS. PLA seems to be fairly consistent with the settings I now use on my Creality but I just cannot for the life of me make anything out of ABS that doesn't end up in the recycling Big Cry

I'm also a complete novice at CAD so generally beg and plead for people to design things for me so I can print them.
Don't suppose you'd be able to help me Question Smile
