Rear seat entertainment wiring routes/daigrams

Hi folks, I am about to embark on a retro fit of factory RSE on my 2011 tdv8 vogue se. I have managed to obtain all of the units required and know that once complete I will also need to have it coded to know they are there, the one bit of info I am missing is a picture of the routing for the cabling.

I have the opportunity to get any required cables out of a written off car and want to try and make the removal as easy as possible. I have looked through the workshop manual and know how it all connects up just no what the cables look like and where they run. For other areas of the car I can see diagrams of the wiring harness and when it runs but can’t seem to find anything for the rear seat entertainment.

I’m after understanding the route that the following cables take.

Power to the rse module
Power to the dvd changer
Monitors to the rse module in the boot. (I’m guessing this one goes from one seat to the other and then as one to the compartment in the boot.
Power to the remote control charger in the rear armrest.
Aux panel in centre console to the rse module in the boot.
Infrared transmitter in the roof to the rse module.

Any help is greatly appreciated to help me having to rip the entire car apart at the breakers! It would be soooooooo much easier if I knew which bits to Rip apart!

Has anyone else done this upgrade? Any advice? Other than not to do it and just get aftermarket! 😂🤣😂🤣

I'm guessing a bit but I think the cables are tied in the other looms too -- from the little I've done with mine (it does have RSE) I don't think it's a distinct overlay loom, seem more to be wrapped together.

Apart from the current situation, and as you're quite close, I'd be happy for you to see mine, offer help with recovery. Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Thanks Bushy30, I was kinda hoping that may be the case as usually this would mean that some of the cabling is already n place in mine. I have had a quick look though and cant find any spare connection in the side of the boot where the DVD and RSE module would go, I know that the MOST loop cable would deal with the data for these and a simple loop addition would do that but it wouldnt help with the power etc. Im also keen to understand the route from there through to the seats and centre console etc.

As mentioned I have the opportunity for rippuing whatever I need out of another accident damaged vehicle so I can just work it out as I go but ideally I wanted to go prepared so I dont do the scrap yards job and literally remove every single piece of the car in a trail and error situation.

I know the screens have a cable that goes down through the headrest post and and then it plugs in somewhere (not sure where). My first port of call would be so wee if that location exists in my car, if it did then I would hope that the cabling is there. I would then I guess foloow all the cables from the RSE module to see where they go, Id hope they are simple plug in harness somewhere that hopefully exists in my car but I suspect I wont be that lucky and what your saying kinda backs up that theory.

This whole Covid situation is making me overthink it, if we were not in lockdown I would have already gone to the scrappy and ripped the car apart, still, if the worst that happens to me is that I overthink things then I am one of the lucky ones, its a horrible situation for anyone involved!

I don't know if it helps but on the 2006 - 2010 workshop manual if you search the PDF with "rear seat entertainment" it comes up with some information, including a schematic of component locations.

I can't access the 2011 workshop manual but if you can it might (should) come up with similar.

You may already have looked at it. John

Thanks Guys, the links given show the component location with some working as well which is what I had originally looked at. It was really helpful but don't actually show the cable routing locations unfortunately!

Sorry, I was aware that it didn't show the routes -- but it does show the connections from unit to unit -- which will help identify the bits of loom I hope Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I did this in my wife’s old D3 many years ago. The technology is basically the same so you should find my write up from “back in the day” useful.

https://disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpi...0Guide.pdf

Please don’t get your hopes up about any wiring or hidden components that will make your life easier in a car without RSE, they’re just not there Rolling Eyes

Stripping the RSE wiring loom from a donor vehicle shouldn’t be too bad, as I recall it’s all down the near side on a FFRR and runs in tandem with other wiring but can be separated. It then runs under the rear of the two front seats with connectors under each seat for the headrest screens. But these are at floor level, you need to make sure you have the full cable length from headrest to floor which runs down behind the seat back.

I could go on and on but the above and the write up should keep you occupied for the time being Thumbs Up

You never know it may even put you off the whole idea Laughing

Cheers,

Cheers Andy, that’s a real help. I had actually already found and read through your write up about 20 times. It’s actually what gave me the confidence to give it a go! I have a disco as well as my 2 fattys, did contemplate doing it in that but her indoors was not keen on having to get demoted to the disco! Plus I got the option of the parts for the tdv8 so that’s first on the list. I like a challenge but any little snippets are always welcome!

My plan was to rip the seats out and the panels around the boot space and I figured I
Would prob get reasonable access to most parts. The cables to the roof for the headphone ir transmitter were the ones that I was hoping may be there to avoid having to pull headlining etc as well but I will just keep going until I have what I need I guess!

I have my shopping list of parts so I’ll just keep going until I have ticked it all off. 👍
