No amber air bag light when ignition is on

Spending some of this down time looking at other possible issues and came across this one. I looked at the quick start up guide and this shows an amber air bag light to the left of the TFT instrument screen. I don’t see this but do get the “Passenger airbag off” light come on with the ignition that is found in the sunroof switch panel. I plugged the IID tool in and got the following fault B1137-13 (AA). I assume that this could be a possible reason why the amber air bag light doesn’t come on, however I would expect the red light to come on if there was a failure. That said, I don’t recall seeing the red air bag light either so perhaps someone could point out where to look on the dash. As it’s TFT I don’t think you can switch different warnings off, although I guess anything is possible with the right tools.

May seem a daft answer, but how long have you had the FF and has the previous owner turned the airbag off to fit a kiddies seat?

The light comes on then goes off in normal on position when you turn on the "ignition". Turn off the airbag and it comes on and stays on by the looks of it. Turn on the airbag with the ignition on and the light goes out. Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard, I’ve had the car since September last year but haven’t driven it too much. I had a good read through the user manual and quick start guide and this is what highlighted the amber air bag light to me. I have checked the key switch that turn the passenger air bag off and this was in the “ON” position so I turned it back and forth a couple of times just to make sure it turned. Problem is there isn’t a lot of information about what comes on when and how long it should be on for. The user manual will tell you what each warning means but not when to expect it to appear apart from an obvious fault.

Sorry about that Denni, I was hoping it could be something simple, rather like me. I'll have a look at mine in the morning and see if I can gve an idea of how long each light stays on when starting the FF.

You may have done this, but a hard reset may work. Let the car go to sleep for several minutes, disconnect BOTH leads from the battery and then touch the leads together for, say, 10 seconds. Refit and looksee.

Sorry I can't help more now, but someone else may be along with more knowledge of this. May I also suggest a search on here? Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard, no question is a daft question. It is so easy to overlook the obvious so it never hurts to put a prompt in. It would have been nice had it been as simple as the switch being off but I'm rarely that lucky. I haven't done the hard reset yet so that's something to have a look at, especially as the car hasn't turned a wheel for a over a month now due to lockdown

Hi Dr Rob, no I just tend to give it a charge every few weeks to top it it up as I don't want to let the battery go completely flat on me.

If you are using a "normal" 12v battery charger, make sure you disconnect the battery, the spike of amps when you switch it on can play havoc...

Your problem seems to be with the passenger side, side airbag, although I agree the red light should be on... speak to the lovely guys at Gap, they may have come across it before... Pete

Hi Denni

Following on from my last, my yellow light comes on in the TFT as a check on the left hand side and the roof passenger light also when you turn on. The stay illuminated for about 6 seconds. To the best of my knowledge there is no red airbag light, the amber being a warning to get the system checked as it has an indicated fault.

I would suggest charging the FF, and a run out if you can get away with it, then a hard reset and then read the faults again and try clearing them, after having sent yourself an email or saving them to your phone/tablet.

The fault indicates an open circuit but that could be anywhere, see the workshop manual in the Wiki.

As DrRob say, a top up charger is very useful for long downtimes. (I'm using an Aldi one with my own 13pin plug to the tow socket. Working fine.)

Sorry I can't be of more help. Cheers
Richard

There is a red airbag warning light. I have one showing at the moment for the drivers wheel one. It is following a problem with the connections to the rotary coupler. I am waiting delivery of a replacement. John

According to the quick start guide the amber light should be just outside the TFT screen as shown in the picture below, or is this just another red herring chucked in to fool people, a bit like the early TFT screenshots that showed audio information in the screen.

Weegie

OPs car is showing 2011 and I think that the only airbag warning is amber. No reference in the OM or on my car.

Haylands

Again I think the airbag referred to is the front dash one. The side airbags are on the seat back adjacent the doors.

Happy to corrected tho. Cheers
Richard

Yes it's a 2011 model, just been out to check as I saw 2 amber lights listed in the picture. None of these are present for me, had a quick look under the seat and all connections are plugged in. Will have to find plugs for dash and perhaps curtain bag too I guess. Once I get a minute I will start with the battery disconnect, hard reset, battery full charge and run the diagnostics again

Denni

That screenshot looks like a petrol engine as the revs show red lining at 7k and seems to show every light but not necessarily the start up checks.

Have you got the owners and workshop manuals? Both are in the Wiki. Cheers
