2004 TD6 gear selector problem

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me? I have a 2004 L322 TD6, my problem is with the gearbox selector, if I leave the vehicle for more than a couple of days the selector goes stiff in that the travel seems restricted? At first i thought it might be the cable? but on further inspection it seems to be the selector rod that goes into the gearbox?

When i spray oil onto it and work the lever back and forth it frees up, but as said before if I leave it for a couple of days it's back to the same?

My question is? is this an easy fix? i.e. replace the seal on the shaft? or is it a re-build job?

Any advice welcomed.

Welcome to the forum.

The selector shaft passes through the full width of the casing to engage with the rooster comb (detent disc) and inhibitor switch on the other side. Where are you spraying the oil to free it up?

Hi, I spray oil where the selector shaft goes into the casing? looking at your pictures could it be the seal on the casing that's swelled?

I’ve never heard of that seal causing an issue before, but there’s no harm in trying it. The Land Rover part number is TLM 000020.

Hi, thanks for the info. Yeah as I said before I thought it was the cable? I'm in the middle of changing out the engine (done 187,000 and dropped an exhaust valve in No 6 and not worth fixing), so dropping the gearbox as well. So will get a chance to have a better look at it?

update on my selector problem, I think I have found the problem? while removing the box I found that the swivel on the selector lever was frozen. The selector shaft moves freely as does the selector cable. So fingers crossed it was the swivel that was causing the problem?

Now on to my other problem, While re-fitting the gearbox I have managed to break the oil pump ring, as I did not notice the the Torque converter was not seated properly and broke the dogs of off the pump Big Cry Big Cry

Can anyone recommend a supplier for a pump repair kit or has an old GM box that I might get the bits from?

The plate on the side says GM TGD000142 3GXG on the top, then part No 96024237 in the middle ,then 001 - - 1124092 on the bottom.

The oil pump rotor (& corresponding slide) are a selective fit in the GM 5L40-E. There are 5 classifications:

I have a (used) rotor with a thickness of 17.97mm/0.7075”
