Cavitated top radiator hose.

Hi Guys, 4.4 tdv8, opened the bonnet this morning, engine cold, and noticed the top radiator hose was cavitated. I removed the expansion tank cap and nothing happened. I removed the top bleeder plug and air was sucked in and the expansion tank filled with about 1/4 pint of water.[ level was normal before this].
If I squeeze the hose the expansion tank level goes up and down. Do I have problems with the expansion cap or do I need to replace the top hose. Thanks Kev.
