its the type of scrolling shutter on the camera and the LEDs 'blinking', so whether it appears lit or not will depend on whether it was blinking or not when the shutter scrolls past that bit of the image. First time FFRR owner

As Stan says, spacing is less of an issue if its just a space in the wrong place, however, yours look tight enough together for that alone to potentially fool an ANPR camera.

I know ANPR camera's pick it up as they have them in the petrol stations in Cribbs Causeway and every time i go in the correct number plate is on the screen!

As i said in the original post, when i spoke to the Police HQ they told me there is a new technology in use on their vans and they now pick up "miss represented number plates" as routine...

Some LED's that use drivers to power them actually go on & off very quickly - too quick for the human eye to notice but video does, hence the flashing effect. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

This is all very simple really. The law is in place for a very good reason, we don't get to pick and choose which laws we want to obey and which we don't and the law should be equally applied to all. Misrepresenting number plates is illegal (sorry Craig, that includes trying to make 11 look like H). The Police are not being tossers and it isn't about making money, we used to be able to do this sort of thing with impunity, but not now, it's that simple and we've got to get used to it.

I quite like personal plates, but if you have to fiddle with them or alter the spacing then you ain't got the right plate mate! First world problems. Drives:

+1 quite agreed - if you have to miss-space letters and alter a number plate with black screws to make it appear to be something it isn’t it is not worth having and is merely stopping the police from doing their job, tracking criminals and preventing crime. That also includes murderers, drug dealers, armed robbers, people traffickers etc etc - it is not just motorists that police need to track and trace.

I also like private plates, but if you are that desperate for a special plate - just buy one you don’t have to alter. Altered plates are illegal, spoil a very nice car and look cheap. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Totally agree with the last three posts.

All the supporters of "vanity plates" would have a different view if say a "hit & run" that effected their family or car could not be traced because of illegal plates.

Just wait till the wombles are fully privatised & they start picking off these nice little earners. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

[quote="stan"]i think the reason you got the fine Craig was because the number/letters were made to look different from the normal.

L11 became LH , so going through a speed camera would confuse it ..

i don think incorrectly spaced numbers/letters are such a problem [at the moment Rolling Eyes ]

and for years the bar stewards at DVLA where busy advertising and promoting plates in the media and on TV pointing out that they could read like a name or a job or some such else whilst all the while knowing that should anybody go down that route, they'd be hit with fines and confiscation of the plates.

A Trap

In WA Australia you are spoiled, ‘private/custom plates are $600 all in, pick what colour background and letters you want or favorite footy or race team logo. Right your name or other words you want and if not taken already click order then pick them up from your local driving center. Simple and cheap, none of this 10000 GBP for RICH 1 or what ever. Think the Ozzy gov. Missed a trick and some cash with this one.
