L405 Power tailgate won't close

Hi Guys,

I am having a problem with the power tailgate on my L405 VSE that I purchased yesterday, both parts open perfectly, however when I press the button on the upper section to close, I hear a brief beep then nothing happens - only way to close is by hand. Is there any calibration procedure or something i'm missing here? or is this a known problem?

Any advice much appreciated! 2004 4.4 Autobiography - gone

When I first got mine the lower tailgate would never shut 100%. I liberally sprayed silicone lubricant over the hinges, struts and catches and it’s been fine ever since.

I realise not shutting 100% is a bit different to not moving at all, but you never know?

Just to conclude this thread, seems this was due to low battery voltage and the mech being slightly stiff. The car hadn't been driven much recently.

Tried it a few times, did reset procedure (long press top tailgate button) then manually opened and closed by hand, then on the next cycle, sprang into life. 2004 4.4 Autobiography - gone

Mine was doing this too!
I lowered the lower tailgate all the way down, by hand and tried pushing the lower button.
I could hear the latches un lock, it did nothing!
As I pushed this button I noticed the lower actuator was still trying to push the lower tailgate down even though it was down.
You could see it flexing on the hinge point trying to open an already lowered tailgate.
I had tried all the reset procedures and they did not work.
So I pushed the lower button and raised the lower tailgate by hand to the locked position.while it was still confused and trying to open itself.
Then I pushed the button on the top tailgate and closed this.
I then locked and unlocked the car with the key fob.
I then pushed the upper tailgate button and it opened as normal.
I then pushed the lower tailgate button and it opened all the way.
I then pushed close on key fob and lower then top tailgate shut normally.
All back to normal.
It seemed it had lost track of where the lower tailgate was, so would only open a bit, then stop as not too break something.
I hope this helps !
