Adjusting headlights for continental driving?

Hi all.
I've had a good search, but I'm still left scratching my head on this one...

I've got an 07 L322, but the previous owner upgraded the headlights to (I think) 2010 style.

I'll be driving on the continent shortly, and I'm aware that the headlights have an adjuster lever inside to change the beam pattern. I've read on here that they are set 'up' for uk, and 'down' for Europe, and I've also read that the European setting 'flattens' the beam pattern.

So... I was tinkering in my darkened garage the other day, and the levers didn't seem to correspond with the above (TBF, it was a while ago now, and I can't exactly remember what was what...).

Is there a definitive guide anywhere?

Hi
I have a 2011 vehicle had same issue - worked it out with the aid of the beam setter at work.
Setting for driving abroad ,
O/S click lever up.
N/S click lever down

both levers should be up for the UK and down for euroland..


i cant find anything in the owners manual about having left and right levers separate... ... - .- -.

And there, in the space of two posts, is why I'm confused! Laughing

The bit of manual that I read said something like "reverse the levers for driving on the continent". Which is useless info IMHO unless you've just bought the car brand new and have an impeccable memory.

My garage tinkering led me to a similar conclusion to what Qubec Tango said, but I've actually got no idea what sort of beam pattern I'm supposed to be aiming for!

Admittedly, both up, or both down, would be brilliantly logical....!! Question Question

Scotland 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

There is a difference depending on the model year. Up to 2009 it was down for Continent and up for UK (not sure about 2010).
It was then changed to down for UK and up for Continent.

If your adjusters are as in this photo then it us for Continent and down for UK :

i know this from personal experience of driving around for almost 1 year with my headlights set to european beam lol.. Regards

sorry but you're both incorrect..

its always been both levers up for UK and down for euroland.

my above extract is from the 2009-2012 WM btw...


this is from the 2006-2009 WM,









the 2013 L405 onwards have flat beams with no adjustment necessary... ... - .- -.

My confusion deepens... On the one hand you're saying 'both' up or 'both' down; and on the other hand you're posting something that says (middle paragraph of both of the WM extracts) that the levers are delivered in different positions depending on whether it is the right-hand light or the left-hand light. And one simply reverses the position for the tourist setting.

I appreciate that it is easy to leap to the conclusion that they are talking about RH drive or LH drive cars, but they're not, they're on about left or right lights with their LH and RH.

I'm still struggling though, because I've no idea whether my lights are 'Halogen' or 'Xenon', or 'Bi-Xenon'! I'm pretty sure they're not AFS (adaptive?).

When I started to tinker with mine, I do recall the levers were in opposite positions (one up, one down).

the up/down refers to the base range rover halogen headlights...

there are very few of these about and nearly all range rover headlights have xenon bulbs...

you have xenons Andy.. ... - .- -.

Sorry Stan you are incorrect.

Please see my post from a month or so ago.

My levers has to be pushed down to get the correct beam pattern.

And for the original poster. The easiest way for you to get the correct beam pattern is to park opposite a fence or garage door etc and move the levers untill you see a beam pattern like in the link I’ve posted above. Regards

Just read your other thread. Great pics.

So does the correct UK beam pattern have two 'bumps'? Then flat for Europe?

The logic in my head says that you'd have a bump on one side for driving on the left, and a bump on the other side for driving on the right...

I'm going to tinker some more tonight after dark and see what mine are like.

You should see a step / bump on both sides buddy yes..

The drivers side should step up and meet the sameline as the passenger side which will then go on to step up.. Regards
