5.0 SC Too quiet

Whilst I’m enjoying my Supercharged, I do think it’s awfully stealthy and quiet. It’s not got that audible V8 burble at idle unless your ear is next to the exhaust. And when pushing it all I can hear is the supercharged and it almost sounds like an electric vehicle.

I wish it had a hooligan mode to open up that exhaust a little for moments of madness, but then also can close it again to be civilised.

On my powerboat (twin VCool I had a switch to let it rip out of the hull.

I looked into this and there seems to be a switchable exhaust but that is nearly the rice of the car 😬😬

Does anyone have any ideas for a cheaper option to make it sound a bit meaner? A burble at idle, nice and quiet upto say 2,800 RPM and then above that have the gates of hell open up 💪😂

It does sound better than the resonator delete in my opinion. And is relatively cheap.

I just don’t want drone to be introduced yet still make it louder. I want my steak and cake 😂

Hmm pulley upgrade, remap, sports cats and new exhaust. 🤣

I ride motorbikes more miles each year than I drive and in the motorcycle world this idea comes up fairly regularly "loud pipes save lives" etc.

But for me the quieter the better, whenever I hear a loud car or bike go by the inevitable comment is "what an idiot" he needs to replace his silencer as the current one is clearly defective!! NB it is always a "he" not a "she".

I learnt to drive at 17 in my father's Daimler Majestic Major (4.5 V8 ) and when the stainless steel exhaust baffles rusted out it made a real roar when I used kick-down! You need a very expensive switchable job, been looking at options for my toy car but decided against it . Same price as a very nice holiday, plus I get to keep my balls Mr. Green Mr. Green Whistle

Yes the only one I’ve seen so far is from paramount at £5,500 😬

I’ll have a word with a few to see what can be done with the muffler. R-TEC Made a bespoke system for us previously for a Murano which they made the muffler to order and super quiet as that was what my wife wanted.

I just want a bit of a V8 burble it doesn’t do anything at the moment. Quietest of the four supercharged I looked at when I bought this one.

Agreed. Even the valves aren’t even that complicated I would have thought.

But to be fair, as the saying goes experience is what you pay for. It’s easy to make a loud system. Much harder to have one that doesn’t get raspy nor boomy or anti-social.

Still not worth it on this car though Smile

England 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Cairns Blue

Some BMWs & Porsches have switchable exhausts & various DIYers have cut the switchable valve section & associated solenoid out of scrap BMW exhausts and fitted them into other vehicles at relatively low cost with an internal switch to enable / disable the "By-pass".
If you haven't the welding skills , but were a keen DIyer, I'm sure you could probably get the bits from a breakers yard & then approach a custom exhaust shop & have them installed.
I know from my experience adding an extra silencer back into my Discovery 2 to get rid of the drone I created by deleted the OE silencer box, that the cutting & welding was about £40 for 1 pipe & obviously there'd be 2 to do on the RR twin pipe set-up. Paul,

How about the switchable ports they often install on 'Kindig Customs'? No idea what they'd cost to install but I don't think it's a huge job - link below

Interesting about the switch. Hmm must be possible to make one more cost effective.

Yes I’ve got quicksilver one the list to look more at. They do interesting stuff.
