Morning Chaps
I'm looking to do a quick sprint to France and back Pre- Brexit to fill up the car with wine enabling me to bridge the initial chaos....
The idea is an early train and then a drive for a nice lunch somewhere and then pick up a car load of wine before heading back.

So the questions are A) where to Lunch and B) Where to buy.

My initial plan was to shoot down to Honfleur where I had Romanced Mrs. markdotreed over the years, a nice lunch on the Quay and then back to pick up a pre arranged order from Majestic.......... But I'm not sure I want to drive 6 hours for lunch so am looking for an alternative.

Happy to drive a couple of hours from Calais. All suggestions gratefully received.

my wife and i had a trip to brugge the other weekend..very pretty town with loads of chocolate shops and some nice beer to consume, cherry being my favourite...

This was a regular lunch spot for us when we did day trips. It is near the dockside at Calais so may not look enticing from the outside but it is an upmarket French restaurant. You would be advised to book.

After lunch you could do your wine shopping at your leisure.

This place in the main square in Calais serves some excellent food at lunch time and early evening.

Le Touquet-Paris-Plage is also one of our favourite resorts, and only 20 minutes from Calais.

The restaurant at the airport used to be a very good place for lunch. Used to fly over from Shoreham for lunch there. Those were the days! John

My tip, drive a good distance from Calais, somewhere like Reims then raid the local carefour.

As far as eating...... it’s france. Invariably decent food in most small restaurants.👍🏻 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I know this is a very late addition but just had to let everyone know about "La Marie Galante" in Audresselles. The food is generally fish based and their Frites de mer is huge.
A word of advice, don't bother with the lobster as it's silly expensive. Pick the crab version of the seafood selection as you save a fortune and it tastes amazing.

Bolougne for the wine from the hyper market (and don’t forget Aldi who do some great wines) and the old town iis good for restaurants. I always refuel as well with something like Total Exelium. We drive 4-6 k pa in France spending time down near the Spanish border

We think Lidle has some of the best wine on offer. They have an extremely good wine buyer. There is a lidle in Calais.

If you are in no hurry, the French have wine festivals , around September time and all the supermarkets cut each other’s throats. Lidle have an app, so u can watch out for the right moment. Big labels & grand cru’s are slashed.

Most people leave with mutli- case buys, some take a corkscrew to try a bottle prior to case commitments! U need to hit on day one or two of the offering, often a Thursday.

Bill Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Reviving an ancient thread, but just in case others are thinking of a similar jaunt:

Head down to Reims, eat at L’Alambic and pick up some stunning Grand Cru Champagne at Champagne Jean-Paul Deville in Verzy, just 10 mins south of Reims. Marie-Alice speaks perfect English and is super-helpful!

Heading back up, stop off at Vimy Memorial and pay your respects, then back to Calais and the train...

It will have to wait a while. France is in full lockdown for at least 4 weeks.. Nice triip in better times. John
