Ok so quick update after a couple of months of use. I have used this reasonably extensively and can say with confidence its grossly over engineered Rolling with laughter its solid, and very tank like.

I am satisfied I can start production of these and make them available to forum members. One slight modification is to widen the channel to allow for a variety of winches to be mounted. The hole patterns are industry standard but winch dimensions fo vary, so we will allow for an additional 20mm of clearance

Thumbs Up

I will start pricing up options for UK delivery and also over seas. Black Perth, I will price everything up for you this week and comeback to you with a price to ship to Australia I will also include a mount for CB radio antennas above the D shackle

Hi,

Nice work on the winch mount. I want one for my RRS.
Any idea if it will also fit a sport?

I am not sure about a Sport. Its entirely possible that the sport and full fat share the same front end architecture. Perhaps someone on the forum can advise? I have never owned a sport so I am not best equipped to answer.

If the crash bar is the same as the L405 then I dont see why it would not fit.

Is anyone in the UK interested in these?

I should point out this is L405 not L322 I'm sure you can likely buy an off the shelf solution for the L322.. but not the L405

Hi Charles, awesome job!! How did you wire the winch? Did you just wire it to the jump terminals under the hood (I'm in the US) or did you run an additional set of heavy gauge wire back to the battery?

Exactly that yes, directly to the jumpers. The cable used on the jump point is very heavy gauge wire and more than capable of dealing with the current from the winch.

The only draw back is under heavy load I.e. winching up a hill, or winching another heavy vehicle is that it throws an alternator fault on the dash because of the current draw. But as soon as you turn the engine off and back on again its absolutely fine.

I have not figured a way around this yet, as usually its resolved by adding an extra battery... but there is no space for an extra battery anywhere...

Thanks Charles & Stan,

To be clear I have a L494 RRS SDV8 Dynamic with low range, e diff locks etc not the L322.
I can see there are winch mount options for the L322 around but I still can't find anything for the L494.
I suspect the full RR L405 would be a close match since it also has the aluminium Chassis.

Here in Sydney I get the cold shoulder from all the usual Off Road suppliers when asking about winch mounts etc. They seem to think that Range Rovers have no place off road! Sad given I've done plenty of remote trips in other vehicles and I can say for sure that none are close to the RRS in off the shelf capability. I'm even comfortable with the reliability but it's seriously frustrating that I can't get the extra comfort margin from having front and rear bars, winch, long range tank, spare tyre mount etc etc. Maybe one day but I have an upcoming trip to Lorrella Springs in the NT this July and I want it all now.

If anybody can confirm that the proposed winch mount could fit a RRS L494 I'm all ears.

Shipping and cost are the biggest issue. I priced up shipping to Australia for another forum member and it was over £400 because of the size and weight

Looking online the crash bar that sits behind the bumper are being advertised and sold as L405/L494 so I assume the crash bar must be the same on both vehicles. I am confident it will fit the L494, what I am unsure of is just how much bumper you would need to cut in order to accommodate it Shocked
For me I was not fussed because second hand replacement bumpers on ebay are cheap

Hi, Charles

Would it be possible to send out drawing and specs to someone out of the country with the small charge to your self for exploratory work that you have done to cut the cost of shipping and import duty? Just an idea.nice work Thumbs Up

Quite possibly yes. I will speak with the engineering company and see if they are able to make some speciality drawings that perhaps an engineer in Australia can follow
