Important news story. Particles

This is an excerpt from the link provided below. These people are leading the drive to reduce emissions , their word when
in praise is mighty weighty!!!!

What I fail to understand is why JLR have failed to protect their company, & their customers by shouting about the clean cars they produce. Can anyone get JLR to pay attention, not only is it their loss but ours as well.

Declining tailpipe emissions from diesels

If we tackle diesel vehicles first, the truth is that they have emitted very few particles, at least in relative terms, since the broad introduction of diesel particulate filters a decade ago. So long as this filter has not malfunctioned or been tampered with, emissions are low over typical driving cycles, even taking into account the significantly elevated levels during the periodic ‘regeneration’ of the filter where the accumulated particles are burned off.

Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with the leading European automotive publisher, Auto Motor und Sport, to test four recent models of diesel cars.

Yes it seems there is work now to do on tyres and brake pads, but hey it’s no longer demon diesel !!!!! Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

By definition then, DPF equipped Diesels are performing Carbon Capture right now so owners should be able to claim tax credits for this fantastic contribution to cleaning up the environment... "Gloria" 2002 L322 Voguish V8 LPG - carcass

Hello everyone

These same people that originally jumped on the bandwagon to demonise diesel, then relented to confirm dirty air in clean air out, have now come out with another shocker,,,

Diesel is cleaner than petrol Shocked

https://mailchi.mp/emissionsanalytics/unre...5ffcb77200

In the meantime major manufacturers such as our own beloved JLR has been brought to the edge of extinction by the jolly happy green brigade.. Sure VW had dieselgate, but that Black cloud overshadowed the benefit modernising diesels to Euro6 standards & phasingbout older cars buses lorries and indeed engines on building sites and log fires could bring to the world..

Best I go and lie down....

Emission analytical continue to drop stuff into my mail box. Worth a read if you want to argue with an idiot hanging from the M25 gantry, or someone sticking 6 inch nails in your tyres. ‘

diesel IS NO LONGER SUCH A BAD LAD ON THE BLOCK

As euro 7 rolls out in the next year or two, just hilights how good euro 6 was and indeed euro 5. The latest euro 6’s are super clean . Usually identied with an additional unexplained didgit. Selfishly, the new L460’s also have filters on the cabin air that remove these particles from older machines and are so fine they remove the covid virus! What is still true is a diesel car driven into a heavily polluted area will emit cleaner air than it takes in.

What beggars belief is we are doing away with ICE when continued improvement arguably makes less particulates than electric. Electric cars being heavier cause more tyre wear…. That’s the next issue coming down the road. Supported by car producers who will make zillions from being the only people permitted to supply tyres for their cars. This has started in part & has an EU following.

Long and short, I can drive my 2.5 tonne FFRR with a very clear Enviromental Conscience. Some of those people on the gantry’s of the M25 need to understand the progress. Our government needs to understand the progress , and maybe the car manufacturers will continue to invest in ICE and continue to clean them up. Even EA think Phev is the best way forward ( another article) . EA are no lovers of cars, but are advisors to many government institutions.

Part of today’s article is here…

Looking at the big picture, it is important to be clear where most air pollution from road transport now comes from. It is mainly from old cars, not new ones. Euro 7 can only affect the cars of the future, not fix the issues of regulatory failure and industry behaviour of the past, as illuminated by Dieselgate. It would be a highly sub-optimal approach to make new cars disproportionately clean to offset the disproportionate excesses of the past. This would seriously impair the new car market leading to owners keeping the older, dirtier cars on the road longer. Where pollution does arise from new cars, it is not from diesels. Not only do nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions across all diesels from the introduction of the on-road Real Driving Emissions (RDE) regulation average just 43 mg/km on Emissions Analytics’ independent real-world testing, many are now well below 20 mg/km. This is two-thirds below the new limit proposed for Euro 7. Further, the market share of diesel passenger cars is below 10% in many countries, even counting mild hybrids, so the aggregate effect of diesels is small. Rather, gasoline vehicles make up around two-thirds of new car sales in most developed countries, a proportion of which have elevated ultrafine particle and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, which will be addressed to some extent by Euro 7.

Dings

Read as much as I have, explore the web site I have given you, and then construct an argument. Laughing is not an option.

Emissions analytical are anti car. Very anti emissions, hugely respected. & that’s their view, which I’m happy to repeat. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Interesting stuff, but unfortunately the debate has already been decided by our great overlords.

I doubt even the polution issue is even that important to them, it is all about control and tax. Tom

Very interesting, but all the government are thinking about is how to get more money from us, just look at Khan's plans for the whole of London, which will affect the poorest section of society the hardest.

Thinking about Khan, the two words that come to mind are 'Sniper rifle', but now that he swans around London in an armoured Range Rover, it seems I would need some thing with a bit more punch, like a grenade launcher Whistle but with the prices of those now, my dreams have been shattered. Big Cry

Range Rovers are typically to B6 Armour level, in addition, the 'subject' may be wearing anything up to and including ECBA, so from the chart below, whilst some 7.62 x 51mm will penetrate the cabin, they will be defeated by the personal protection worn.

I would suggest 0.50" Browning would give you the most 'bang for your buck', UGL's even HE loaded, wouldn't really penetrate the outer shell in any meaningful way. Brownings can easily be vehicle mounted and the barrel is easily removed should you wish to covertly transport one (or several) to your chosen kill zone.
