Sorry to read this.
If the key was in a faraday pouch in the house then they did not get the signal from the keys, so at what point do they get the bit that tells the car it is OK to open and drive. How close do they have to be. letters not necessarily in the right order

I would guess they were hidden away somewhere when the car arrived at the OP’s address! That’s the scary bit!!!

Yes - and that's the bit that's concerning me about getting another one...

There does appear to be an approved solution to stop this that LR will allow to go on the car.

having fun now putting into the insurance websites how much of a difference now having a theft claim is making to our insurance. roughly a 30% increase. Laughing

Plus have been given a Stelvio as a courtesy car - which is frankly crap. Which isn't helping as my wife is understandably Censored at the idea of having to downgrade just to not have to worry about this sort of thing..

I may phone LR and tell them about the tech and raise that as a risk.

Amusingly also - at the pickup for the car hire the manager said that almost 50% of people coming in for hire cars due to a theft are LR owners - the woman next door to me in the queue's parents had their FF nicked before Christmas about 5 streets away from me - and the manager could name multiple other examples 2016MY Carpathian 4.4SDV8 Autobiography (Stolen) 😡

Are these not rolling codes in this day and age, I didn’t think you could simply clone the signal by listening in.

Is it more likely a smashed window and additional key programmed? That’s a very common BMW tactic?

Would be good to know what we are up against, always tempted to relocate the ODB port and present a dummy one in its place with + 12v on all pins - not sure the dealerships would agree!

If you think this is bad, the scary thing on a Defender is you can connect via ODB without even ignition and program keys or just turn off the immobiliser Censored Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Stories like these make me think I should take out some Gap insurance.

I’ve been quoted £225 for 4 years cover back to invoice price (£40k). Covers theft and write off.

I thought that was quite a good price but can’t help but think some soppy clause would be invoked and they wouldn’t pay out Crying or Very sad

Mr Tee, just a bit of info.

Wanted to fit this system to my car but found out that it will make your LR Warranty null and Void. They will not cover anything if they suspect the Ghost System is interfering, so the way LR perform that would probably be anything and everything.

Whistle Whistle

Fitted a ghost to mine and had no issues.

I did wonder about warranty as mine had a restricted power issue, Land Rover changed the turbo changed under warranty and no questions was asked about the tracker and they was aware of it as I had to give them a code to start it. Obviously changed the code when I got it back 2015 Range Rover VSE 4.4 SDV8. 1998 BMW 840 Sport, 2008 Aston Martin DB9

I had to get a tracker fitted for insurance to cover theft. I am shocked about how quick they disabled that function. Can I ask what tracker you had fitted if I may. I have a tracker locate fitted which apparently has 'jamming countermeasures'.

This was landrovers in control tracker. Apparently they know they can't get the tracker out so they cut the aerials. 2016MY Carpathian 4.4SDV8 Autobiography (Stolen) 😡

1959terry,

I contacted LR SVO direct and had a reply off them and in writing saying that my new car 3 year Warranty would be null and void with a Ghost System fitted.

I’m not sure if you had the new car warranty or extended Warranty which could be different, also, LR said that there had been problems with gearbox issues with the Ghost 1 system, when I Explained that it was a new improved Ghost 2 system they still would not cover it. Question Question

Also, on top of that, if I wanted to fit a dashcam it would have to be a plug in to the cigarette lighter type and not hardware type as if there is a problem with the wiring loom , etc etc, within 3 years , they would not cover it either Whistle Whistle .

Hi, is this the car that you had to wait for them to get the service history?
Just because they said it had updates done dosnt mean they had done them, have you called them to see if they had replaced any keys? That may be had been lost.
Have they been any help?
I worry all the time about getting our car nicked, but what do you do? Give in to the thieving fu##ers?

Every time I book in the car for something, need a new bit, then they ask for the vin number.

Surely a stolen car be hi lighted as nicked on the JLR system and the police informed about where the part is being sent?????

Sorry about your nicked car Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc
