Stolen! And I’d like to apply for a new world record

Right. So what’s the record for time between taking delivery of your FF, parking it outside your house and some complete utter bastard half inching it?

I’d like to propose that 15 days holds the record.

As that’s what’s just happened to me.

Sat at home in front room - car 10 feet outside on street. Keys safely tucked up in a faraday box 2/3rds way back in the house positioned behind massive metal fridge as well.

Phone goes from incontrol on both text and get a call - “we think your cars been stolen”

Me - “WTF it’s parked outside” - walk to front door - open it - no car. Must have been all of 30 secs to 1 minute.

Tracker is cut/jammed 4 minutes later.

So FF is gone and most likely in a crate on its way to a lovely new holiday destination

Had confirmed by the dealer that it had had its keyless entry update. Incontrol basically said - “they can still clone them and will wait for you and take the frequency when you park”

Big problem now is why bother to get another one as they’ll just come back - and if I fit a disklock/keypad other security would just break in.

Why bother working your arse off to have nice things... 😔 [/i] 2016MY Carpathian 4.4SDV8 Autobiography (Stolen) 😡

One positive. I was literally about to walk out and change the plates over and fit my fullfatrr.com sticker. So the Censored didn’t get the sticker. I shall put it on the fridge as a memorial. 2016MY Carpathian 4.4SDV8 Autobiography (Stolen) 😡

Can't have anything nice in this world that is unreal that the tracker was jammed so quickly. Any chance someone came to find it with a spare key? 2005 E60 M5

What a b****r Sad

I'm about to get some replacement keys for my L322 from an apparently reputable mob in North London, and it did fleetingly cross my mind earlier that if I go for the £100 new flip key option rather than the £40 refurb then they will have access to my EWS unit and easily make another key for themselves.... awful to think this way but in this day and age etc.

I wonder if GAP IIDTool allows to delete any extra or spare keys programmed into the EWS or whether some other tool is able to do this?

On the whole keyless entry issue, perhaps what we need is a faraday cage slot in vehicles where we can place our keys (like is already used inside the vehicle to hold the key to then enable starting? Though this does mean we lose the convenience of unlocking at a distance of course, maybe a necessary price to pay for security?

As regards in-control - couldn't they have instantly disabled your vehicle(or/and trigger the airbags!) rather than just telling you it was nicked?

Nope. Apparently they can’t do that. They were so quick to call the tracker was still live when they did. No capability to do anything. 2016MY Carpathian 4.4SDV8 Autobiography (Stolen) 😡

Interesting, so what actually triggered them to call you? ie how did they know it wasn't you starting your vehicle and moving it away I wonder?

"How did incontrol know it was nicked?"

Because it wasn't started by the two keys the OP has would be my bet...

Look on the bright side sir... You or your family weren't hurt! No one was threatened by a moped driving knife wielding smack head! Censored Censored Censored

Makes sense....

So, naive question probably, but why can keys not registered to the OP be able to access and start the car in the first place?

Ultimately because of the EU! And a little thing called “block exemption!” Sir... I wouldn’t go into specifics about the act of cloning a key on an open forum but. Block exemption was put in place to stop Main Dealers/Manufacturers having a monopoly when the owner of a car looses or requires a new key!

JLR’s MD’s we’re charging ordinary customers for a new KVM, a new BCM & 2 new Keys! Often running into £————‘s of pounds!!! Whistle

Since these thefts JLR have tried to put measures in place to stop these thefts but ultimately it’s now like trying to fight worldwide cyber crime from one department in Lode Lane!

Bigglez,

So sorry to hear about your theft.

Just hope the Police are doing everything they can to find out who did this and hopefully recover your car.

Sorry to hear this, let’s hope someone comes across it parked up a few miles away which seems to be a common tactic to see if they have secondary trackers fitted. Fingers crossed 🤞

Its a sad world, we have a FFRR, Defender and big Twin Axle caravan all of which seem to be quite desirable and the source of a bit of worry for us which they shouldn’t be. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

thats terrible news David..

another valid reason to switch the keyless entry off however useful it may be..

the theft sounds very professional given the effort you went to with the faraday protection and them disabling the tracker... ... - .- -.

The Censored Censored Censored

I had to get a tracker fitted for insurance to cover theft. I am shocked about how quick they disabled that function. Can I ask what tracker you had fitted if I may. I have a tracker locate fitted which apparently has 'jamming countermeasures'.
