2011 TDV8 - How to remove handbrake module

Hi folks

Has anyone done the above?

We are currently changing rear hub bushes and doing all new rear brakes while we are at it.

Had a sparky release the handbrake cable from actuator module however we need to remove the module and cables from the vehicle now as struggling to do this? Looks like it needs removed from above but no access panel?

Has someone done the before?

It’s a 9 page PDF in the Workshop Manual, which is available free in the Wiki, but I think the answer may be “ NO “.

If it's the same as the 2007 then the rear sub frame needs to be dropped or atleast it did when my indie changed mine. 2015 4.4 AB

We did my 07 EPB cables as part of a complete rear end renovation at the end of the year.

Removing the module is a massive task, involving subframe removal, cutting the exhaust at an appropriate spot etc etc.

Thus we didn't remove it.

However the cables can be removed and replaced with the module still in place..... BUT

It is a total pig of a job involving fingers at the very limit of dislocation, to fingertip feel the internal connection flange inside the blind module and a second experienced mechanic to manipulate the outer/inner parts of the cable to facilitate the insertion of the cable end.

Kinda like a coloscopy with the camera turned off!!

Module person standing under car at rear facing forward with hand 'stuffed' up into the module area.
Cable person at wheel hub to ensure that the inner cable has enough free play to not only connect inside module but also so that it doesn't push the module activator away from the connector.

Module person then uses finger tips, bad language and multiple shaking of blood back into the fingers to fingertip the cable end into the tab and hold it there whilst the cable person then applies pressure to the outer cable to engage it into the module. All the time without dislocating the inner cable again.

I was the 'module person', my son in law was the 'cable person', two further garage mechanics stood around to observe and offer words of wisdom. Rolling with laughter

Clearly as part of the cable replacement I also changed the EBB shoes and the spring loaded pins, + new discs and pads and everything else.

RR EPB cable/module replacement is not a job that I would want to pay to have done, nor is it a job that my son-in-law would ever accept for a client.

When all back together, don't forget the EPB computer learning procedure to go through. (EASY) Smile

I did mine on a 2007 and dropped the subframe and removed the entire exhaust as it is one piece lots of work but just needs to be plodded through

My exhaust was not cut either, my module had stopped working completely so no choice but to change ,indie ( 2 off them ) did it in about 4 hours BUT I had to replace a few bolts , nuts etc. 2015 4.4 AB
