I’ve had neither, but I seem to remember that the general consensus on here is that the Jag 4.4 is a “better” engine than the BMW unit.... not sure if it’s smoother or a bit more modern....

I am owner of a late 2005 l322 with the jag 4.4 engine with currently 150.000 miles. I have it for a year now, and the engine is smooth and reliable. The first owner who had it, installed LPG and the car runs on it for the last 20.000 miles.

I think the engine is terrific. I had six trouble free (yes!) years and am nervously comparing my new derv fuelled replacement.

The Jag engine is better imho BUT! The big BUT is the transmission on the later Jag engine is SOOOOOOO much better than the BMW transmissions!

I spent ages looking into this & made my mind up by buying a late 2005 (2006 spec) 4.4 JAG with a 6 speed box. Nearly four years on & still pleased. |

I wanted a jag 4.4 this time, mainly for the gearbox etc. I couldnt find one but would have much preferred it to the one I bought. 2005 E60 M5

I have had my 2005 Registered (2006 model) since January 2014. At the time I did not want a diesel as I was worried about the repair costs of turbos and injectors etc.. The mpg was not significantly different between an early diesel and as at the time nobody wanted big petrol engines the V8 was several tghousand less than a similar age, spec, mileage diesel so got a bargain. Bought with 93K and currently on 167K. Been serviced every 12k miles by my local garage and now by a friendly mechanic. Engine wise apart from normal oil, filters and plugs only other repauirs have been the tensioners (done early on) a leaging coolant pipe (about 2 years ago), a failed PCV last summer, o2 sensors last summer and yesterday a crankshaft sensor. Other issues have been brake lines and i had the gearbox refurbished after 18 months although i new this was on its way out when i purchased. I have also replaced many suspension arms and bushes ( i still have a low speed knock) and had about 4 sets of tyres. Most of the repairs are just normal maintenance and can be done by an enthusiast with the right info.

Are the touch screen versions the ones with the Jag engine? Only reason I ask is that I have a June 2005 registered L322 and I thought it had the Jag engine as opposed to the BMW one
