The MY17 Seems to be the sweet spot - agree or disagree?

Hey Everyone,

i am in the market for a FullFat and I generally take forever to make a decision and study every aspect of it relentlessly before eventually making a decision and i think the MY17 is the one to aim for.

The best of the tech - Big infotainment screen, nice digital TFT display dials, apple car play, but still maintains the door storage pockets and the cd player as standard and having the simplicity of the climate controls before the second screen was introduced.

do others agree or is there another year that you think has the balance of good tech without removing the existing good aspects?

Agree. I feel lucky with my MY17 car with apple car play etc. And agree on the climate dials etc. Also, it’s a very small detail but I like how it says ‘Range Rover’ on the centre console rather than the ‘LR’ badge on the MY 18 onwards cars... 2017 Range Rover Vogue V6 Diesel

It is/was for me, for the reasons you’ve mentioned.

I went to buy a lightly used 16MY car and the Salesman made the mistake of letting me test drive a 17MY demonstrator. It’s just like the previous model years, but with the few rough edges smoothed off. It’s only really the instruments and the infotainment, but the advances were astonishing!

I wondered if the MY18 would leapfrog it again but, for every step forward, there seems to be at least two steps back. I’d get lynched if I did away with the DVD/CD player and the dual view front screen, while loosing the big comfy cushions on the winged headrests would see me right in the dog house Rolling Eyes

I'm the same way... the 16/17 is almost identical, the big difference is carplay. I went for a 16 because at the time a 17 AB was 20-40k more than the 16. Carplay wasn't worth tens of thousands to me.

You can now get CarPlay fitted to the 13-16MY’s. There’s a thread in L405 Technical. 2016MY Carpathian 4.4SDV8 Autobiography (Stolen) 😡

I don’t even know what car play is Laughing so it’s of no interest to me, but the differences in the both the hardware and all of the rest of software for the entire infotainment system and instruments are substantial Thumbs Up

Indeed. It was the main reason why I wanted an MY17. Which I still prefer to the more recent versions, not being a fan of the lower screen and as for the loss of the door storage. Evil or Very Mad

I was hoping this would be a software update. I don't really want to swap the entire head unit just for carplay. It is really sad LR couldn't just give the 13-16 crowd a carplay update. I recently rented a 2016 25k chevy malibu who's infotainment was lightyears ahead of my 150k (new) AB. Our 2017 mercedes is the same way, expensive car garbage infotainment... meanwhile my beater mazda has it all. So weird.

I'm in the same position as you, I don't really want to be changing the head unit either particularly if it effects the warranty.

I think the most unobtrusive option is this one http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?prod...amp;page=1

I haven't gone for it as yet but might give it a go soon.

Has anyone else tried it?
