Rear passenger fan gone nuts

Hi guys, I’ve searched on here prior to posting but can’t seem to find anyone that has the same problem I’m having so hoping somebody can shed some light.

When out today with the family and dogs. I wanted the rear fan blowing cold air on to the dogs so didn’t have to drive 50 miles with the windows open. The fan was blowing warm initially so I turned the rear temp knob to cold and it went cold. Good. Fan was running very slow so turned the rear fan knob up, fan sped up. Good. Got fed up with the noisy fan after a while so turned the fan knob down. Fan speed did not change. Bummer. I tried turning it all the way off but doesn’t seem to make any difference- the fan ran at max speed where ever it was set.

I was hoping something might have reset after parking up and leaving the car off for a couple of hours but after starting the car again the fan is blowing at max speed with knob turned off/right down. I read just now that the rear compartment controls can be isolated by the switch on the centre console (that looks like the back of the car with wind blowing through) but can’t work out if that switch should be illuminated or not to allow control in the back, as it doesn’t seem to make any difference either way.

If anybody can offer any advice or point me to where I can find some more information I would appreciate it.

Thanks! 2012 4.4TDV8 AB

If it's anything like the earlier cars the fan speed will be controlled by a final stage resistor similar to the front fan.
These fsrs tend to fail such that the fan runs at maximum speed and can't be controlled.
Can't be specific with your year of car but chances are you need a new rear fsr. Thumbs Up

I tried again just now with the switch illuminated and not illuminated and it made no difference to any of the controls so it looks to be the fsr. 2012 4.4TDV8 AB

Is this the fsr under the rear console?
