Morning all!
I found evidence of mice in the engine bay...just a little nibbling of the sound deadening..I put it down to the car being used less now I have a van for work. Anyway, coincidentally or not, since then the head unit plays up by switching itself on and off repeatedly for a while, the tickover is no longer even when cold and the adaptive lights warning light has started flashing twice...sorted by recalibrating. Fairly sure I have some chewed wires somewhere but where do I need to start looking?

Look for the signs of nesting. Look everywhere as they get everywhere. Then start checking your fuses. Good luck.

Look very hard, I had the same problem a few tears ago, gearbox went into fail safe & was told said box needed a rebuild being & early 322 I just sold the car to a friend for spares/repair he investigated a little deeper, found mice had eaten the loom for the gearbox ecu !! Second hand ecu & a loom repair and she’s still going now. Yes I was little sick.

Mice love the looms next to the front suspension turrets... Had a few in with issues! All been eaten there...

Would that be under the wings and behind the plastic wheel arch liners?

No, very obvious with the bonnet up sir...

Ok, so, no Mice damage anywhere that I can see. But the beginnings of a nest in the 'V'. They have probably been put off by me using the car the last few days...mouse traps in the engine bay the last two nights but no takers yet..

So, IS this a mouse problem or a coincidence? Symptoms now are that, occasionally, on starting and running, after a few minutes the tick over starts to hunt across about 500rpm, then the seatbelt lights tarts to flip on and off, as does the head unit and then a variety of spurious fault warnings come up. If I rev it, mostly it all goes away, which makes me think alternator/battery issue but no warning lights for these are coming on. I guess this could still be mouse related if so. Am I on the right lines or should I be looking at something different?

Edit: Just taken it out for a run..all sorts of weird and wonderful faults popping up but drives fine..though whilst doing this the steering goes heavy...then it just stops and all is well again..
So, will book it in to be looked at if I get nowhere looking under the car tomorrow..

You said you have only started to use it for a couple of days, I would Check your battery voltage at rest and charging -plus under load. A battery in poor condition with give all sorts of weird issues.

So, I checked the battery and all seemed well. The following day I drive 40 miles without a single fault showing. Today I took it to Famous Four Louth and within 5 minutes of setting off she was lit up like a Christmas tree...absolutely everything going bananas...even the speedo was intermittently dropping to zero! But the car itself still performed faultlessly apart from a shaky tickover!

Conclusion:
One knackered alternator. Veering between 11 volts and 16 volts... the poor ecus couldn't keep up! All sorted now.....and apparently very little mice damage anywhere, so just coincidence!

Famous Four were brilliant as usual and their parts prices very competetive.
