So I would like to put 4 Scorpion Verde on my Range Rover. an interesting question arose when discussing this with some friends. Should I spend 4 x £199.00 on new tyres or purchase them off Ebay for an average of £100.00 per tyre? the repaired tyres have 8mm of tread and the repairs have been made in the middle of the tread. I would never buy a puncture repair made on the side wall.

Thoughts please?

At a £100 a tyre, plus I assume the cost of fitting, balance and disposal of carcass, to me it’s not worth the bother or risk, the tyres already had part of its life, how far was it run flat, how long left flat and what is the other unseen damage to the plys - I would never ever consider them. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

I’ve never had a problem with the principle of fitting used tyres and have bought some “as new” take offs as a great value alternative to refurbing and buying new tyres.
However I do question the economics of fitting anything part worn. It costs the same to have a new or used tyre fitted and balanced so unless the tyre is almost new or very cheap it doesn’t make any sense to me.

As a species we are a bit funny about some things.

Many of us (including myself) would "never" buy used tyres - however, this year I bought 5 of them because they were on the FFRR I bought !

We can also be funny about other things - how many of us would not buy &/or use secondhand bedding, cutlery or crockery but use exactly that when we go on holiday/out for a meal ?

I wouldn't wish to buy puncture repaired tyres. Bought part used once as a spare, but that car was so slow it wouldn't go over the pavement, never mind take the fence. (after jasperroony) Cheers

I would.
I regularly used to for my bike. People would swap nearly new tyres due to a puncture. If its properly repaired its not an issue. I've lost count of how many puncture repaired tyres I have run until down to (and sometimes past) the wear markers.
If they come with some form of warranty to ensure they have no sidewall bulges, or deformation indicating delamination, then you should be ok.
As long as you have them correctly fitted and balanced what is the problem ?

Sure, there is a risk where they came from. For example, were they on a vehicle that had an accident, or have been regularly curbed. You simply can't know this, and have to go on condition.

There is the additional cost of fitting, balancing, and getting rid of the old tyres, but that is still a good saving to be had.

I recently bought a 2nd set of wheels & tyres for my car. Had the wheels refurbed and the tyres refitted. I have no knowledge of their history but they are doing great so far  Too many toys, not enough time

I've put used tyres on a number of my cars over the years. Same as Brian, I'll drive on used tyres when I but a used car, so what's the difference? I personally wouldn't fit used ones that have repairs or damage, but a decent set of matching used tyres with 6-7mm+ tread can be a great way to save a decent amount.

I bought a set of used Verdis for the FF from an outfit in Austria.

Their stuff comes with a full test report and a guarantee. And yes I would use them again.

Paid +- £300 for a set of 4 with 7.6mm etc. Superb condition when delivered.

I have access to a family owned tyre center so can fit and balance my own (but don't usually have to).

Used can be a very good way to go in order to have 'top tyres' at affordable prices. Factor paying fitting etc, and you should still be in pocket.

Buy from a Pro' used tyre outlet and by default they should be providing a legal service.

(sidewall repairs or repairs near the sidewall are illegal).
