Ok with all this cold weather we have noticed a lot of condensation every morning on the inside of the 4.2 the 4.4 did not seem to get this. There is a lot a micro fibre cloth will be sopping wet.

Any ideas of the cause here? It had a leak which I thought I fixed with the drains but maybe not? Current stable:

Sounds like you have a leak - at least water somewhere

Do you continue to tun aircon through the winter ? that can help dry the air.

I have a Mini that does something similar, but can't figure out where the leak might as there is relatively little moisture and no wet carpet that I can find, so I just put one of these in there through the winter

Just sold my mother's car, which had exactly the same. Her car definitely had a leak though.
She was using the things Alistair has linked to, that kept it under control. Too many toys, not enough time

My 4.2 SC does that too. One time I noticed it in the evening so I got in to mop up and noticed how very warm it was inside the car. I left both front doors open for 10 mins till the inside and outside air temperatures equalised and the condensation disappeared and the windscreen was still clear the next morning.

My guess was that these vehicles must be very well sealed and retain the heat and humidity after driving such that the condensation is caused by the temperature differential. 2006MY 4.2 SC

What’s the best way to do some leak investigation?

I was thinking wait for a nice dry day and drop the headlining 10-15cm and get the pressure washer out give it a hard going over and then see where it’s coming in? Current stable:

Do you run on recirculate? Moisture has got to go somewhere.

Check the usual suspects, sunroof drains rear compartment etc

Also where is the air con dryer on these, I remember on our hilux the drain had got blocked which caused the dryer to fill the cabin with water..... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

A smoke bomb (serious) will find any gaps & show with errrr smoke!
Saw it done on an old Wheeler Dealers show.
Now where you get them I know not.

Keep the pressure washer away from the sunroof. If it didn't leak before the test, it will afterwards!

With all the recent heavy rain, we people introduce lots of moisture, from stuff like 'breathing', damp clothing, wet shoes etc.

If you have to carry live wet people use the roof rails, keep a window cracked open half an inch when driving, and on a sunny winter day seize the chance to park in the sun with all the windows and tailgate open for a couple of hours.

Remember to close up not much later than 3pm as the temp/humidity, drop/rise again.

I have a sunroof and it had 3 of 4 drains blocked in the summer. I found this out as I had a dead break unit with water all over it.

I cleaned all those new Bluetooth etc and today checked rear compartment no puddles or anything but the metal exterior of all units (dvd changed, amp etc) all had serious condensation on?

Any ideas?

Don't jump to the conclusion that there must be a leak. All three of my cars (SWMBO's one is actually new) have all suffered from significant condensation (water running down the inside of the windscreen) during the recent cold snap. However, they all recovered just fine after the initial condensation was removed (good old fashioned chamois) and as it has got warmer the problem has not reoccured. I'm not suggesting that it is not a leak, it may well be, but dry it out and see if it happens again.
Another thing to ponder on in leak analysis is, has it actually been raining where you are, here it hasn't, not rained for days in fact - too cold.

Paranoid about flames in the car so going to put in an old chime bowl and then put that in a bigger bowl full of water.

I had similar when I had the windscreen replaced a few years back on my old 4.2. It hadn't been fully sealed and allowed moisture to get in.
