Are there any "proper" body shops about anymore | |
I had an issue with some supermarket junkie deciding that my Freelander 2 would be a good thing to swing into when turning into a parking space which left a small dent just beneath the rear light and a nasty scratch on the bumper. Obviously I didn't want to leave it looking like this and took it to a couple of body shops to get an estimate for the repairs. Whilst getting quotes I asked if they could sort out the rust that was beginning to show on the rear wheel arch lip (seems to be a Land Rover feature).
Not one would give me any promise they could carry out an effective repair. They all stated that they could apply some rust converting agent but couldn't guarantee it wouldn't come back within 6 months. Now my FFRR has a single small bubble just above the rear bumper (can just feel it but is very difficult to see) and there is a very light spotting of rust on the arch lip. Now I would like this to be looked at and repaired, ideally lasting a few years not months. Having looked at what others have found once they have removed the arch liner, I suspect that I too will have a bit more work needed than just the little bubble flatted and treated. When I watch Car SOS they cut the rot out where necessary and treat the lighter stuff with a rust converter, why do body shops not want to do this? I appreciate it may require some fabrication but isn't that what panel beaters and they used to be called did?
If anyone has any recommendations for a decent body shop in North Cumbria I'd appreciate some details, ideally if you have had work done or know someone that has and are happy with the work carried out.
