I wish I could claim someone stole them - however it was my own stupidity, I took them off and left them on the rear bumper when fitting the cross bars.

Drove off and they are nowhere to be seen :'(

Still, not all is lost, the part number is VUB002250 and can be bought from Britcar for around £14 each. 

when I fitted my roof rails about 6 years ago, i did think they were a bit loose. but sofar haven't lost one

Frankly I'm surpised the whole thing held together, I can't work ratchet straps for toffee:

I was going to top that and raise you with my skibox, but imageshack keeps loosing my pics, did find the pics of me fitting the roof rails though

Exactly what I was looking for. Did the same as you did, but fortunately remembered to refit 3, just leaving one on the roof. Nowhere to be seen. Shall be ordering one, thanks very much.

It's just occurred to me that you must have fitted the front bar from the front of the car - why the hell didn't I think of that. Instead of pushing it all the way from the other end!

Although if I'd done that I would have lost all 4 caps!
