Electronic Parking Brake module

Hi guys, Iam after some help please, I have a 2012 L322 with a parking brake issue, I think it’s seized or stuck as you can hear it trying to work but then the light appears on the dash ‘Parking Brake Fault’

My question is are the modules all the same throughout the l322 model , as I cannot find a module second hand or reconditioned for my year. Big Cry

Many thanks

Have you had a look inside the hub at the shoes?
Could be a mechanical problem the shoe retaining pins can give up and cause problems

Hi Cass,

if Iam honest, no not yet, they appear to be stuck in the off position so I can still use it but when you try to apply the hand brake it just makes a stuck motor type of noise and then the warning appears.

Resets itself when locked and left for a while.

I've just had to have mine replaced as it had stopped operating on one wheel - no faults shown (although I had seen an intermittent error a few months previously). It was picked up at the MOT.

Apparently a whole load of gears were shredded inside. It was very expensive to replace. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Mine has just given up it jammed a few times in the summer and the 11d tool sorted it but this time it has munched itself so new module at 495 plus vat and drop the subframe to get at it
You can buy repair kits but with the amount of effort needed to change it I am putting in a new module which comes with all new cables

Thanks guys,

I think mine jammed up as it’s now working again, I have ordered new discs, pads and shoes as they are fairly shot anyway, so will see if there is anything amiss in the drums when I strip it down.

Fingers crossed

@jc, if you are changing the discs, pads and shoes, spend a few pence more and change the shoe spring retaining clips, the park brake cable actuator (on the top of the brake backing plate) and the park brake shoe adjuster piston.

It is one of those, best just change it whilst in there type of jobs. £10/£20 now vs a chunk of labour etc down the line.

I have just spent part of the afternoon putting my park brakes back together as part of my total rear end rebuild. 15 mins per wheel (assembly of new parts).

I can see that the cable retaining wheel actuator part could corrode and get stuck/sticky, which would not help the EPB module at all.

If you really want to punish yourself, change the park brake cables, W/O dropping the rear sub-frame. Yee haa !

Danger is, I spotted some corrosion on a brake line whilst in there, guess what, stripped out all the hard brake lines rear and front and replaced with new at this time. (FFRRs have a mile of plastic shrouding to get through before you can see the hard stuff).

Tomorrow we have a plan to finish this part of the rebuild and change over to the Laser 4 wheel alignment ramps. Arrow

Best laid plans and all that.

Cheers, Rich
