I recently bought a 57 plate Range Rover HSE TDV8, it has a fantastic spec and I am very pleased with the car, however it has 2 annoying faults that having taken it to the main dealers at £96 per hour will need to be fixed either by me or by some other method

The heater will not blow in to the foot well, the dealer informs me that having checked the data logger, the car is directing the controls there, so believes that the valve is stuck and quoted 6 hours plus parts to strip and repair

And an erratic fuel gauge which is a known special service message 44469 that could be a loose earth or a replacement pump at 4 hours plus parts.

I was hoping that someone might direct me to a workshop manual, or have already encountered these problems and can direct a repair.

Failing that a repair shop that does not charge £96 per hour with trained Range Rover staff in the Nottingham Derby area

Sorry to hear that but at 22k for a TDV8, i'd have been suspicious.. I can only assume it was a Sport as well ?

Unfortunately unless you can find the dodgy seller, there's not much you can do. Maybe make an offer to the insurance company who own the stolen vehicle. It will still probably be in the region of 75% value though.

On the other problems (heather and fuel) did you took out the extended warrenty?

If so then that will be covered. if not, take out the insurance and have it done under warrenty

The best way to stop this happening is to have a potential vehicle inspected by the RAC or AA, it costs around £200. A trained inspector will inspect the vehicle and provide a seriously detailed report (right down to how many bonnet stone chips it has). Nine times out of ten they will find a defect/s which actually allows you to bargain with the seller down (thereby saving the cost of the inspection or more).

Best of all they HPI the vehicle (not that it helps if it was cloned), check the VIN marks, Reg Book, check for previous accident damage and financially stand over the vehicle.
