Noticed yesterday and today that when the upper tailgate remotely closes there is a noise from the upper right strut, just about at the point when the tailgate is about to close flush with the lower tailgate. Sounds a bit like creaking but more like ice cracking (bit like when car doors are frozen shut and they get pulled open).

Has anyone got any ideas or suggested remedies please?

could it be frozen water/moisture ? or does it do this all the time .. ... - .- -.

I've had this, it was one of the plastic wraps that hides the wires going in to the top of the tailgate that had come undone, clipped it back together ( mine was on the right hand side) and all was well again.
