Clonking / noisy wipers - SOLUTION!

Hi everyone

Had very noisy wipers on my FFRR ever since I've had it and got really fed up with it tonight so have totally sorted them.

Solution as follows;

Driver side wiper was hitting the A pillar so adjusted in line with RAVE, now silent on that side. It just needed moving down slightly on the spindle.

Passenger side - this was again too high and got moved down to sit correctly when parked, however the most difference to the noise was changing the angle of the wiper against the windscreen. I adjusted the angle to be 90 degrees to the windscreen as that was all the wiper adjustment would allow - and found that the blade was wiping against the flow of the wiper - hence the noise.

So - I took the blade off and filed out the adjustment hole some more so I could get the angle that RAVE says (86 degrees against the window when parked) and now it's perfect - no noise what so ever at any point of the wiper sweep.

Well chuffed!

One other thing people might not realise is - the black strip at the bottom of the windscreen that your wipers should park on has separate heating elements that automatically come on with the washer jet heaters - specifically to keep your wipers from freezing when driving in freezing conditions where wipers might not get used often.

Good stuff eh!? FFRR TD6 06MY. Cairns Blue, Blue Hide. LR 7 Spoke 20" Wheels, S/C Grill and Vents. Privacy Glass and Side Steps

Will, you're rapidly becoming more obsessed by the day!

Go out and drive and enjoy it!

I've got to travel to slough tomorrow which normally I would be unhappy about, but the prospect of 260 miles in th TDV8 VSE brings a smile to my face! Very Happy Discovery 4 HSE

Will,

Did you adjust your wipers so that they parked on the lower black strip properly?

Mine don't park there but I have put it on the list for the Dealer next week Thumbs Up Discovery 4 HSE

Yep - they now park in the black strip along the bottom.

Very pleased with the front wipers now. Silent operation and always kept unfrozen during the snow / below freezing conditions FFRR TD6 06MY. Cairns Blue, Blue Hide. LR 7 Spoke 20" Wheels, S/C Grill and Vents. Privacy Glass and Side Steps

My wipers now park correctly but I think they make more noise than they used to, only upon the switch from backwards to forwards at the end of the motion. It makes sense in a way because the wiper blade has to turn over.

Has anyone cured this noise easily? Can we fit flat blade wipers to our cars because Costco are selling Goodyear Assurance ones for about £6 each but I wasn't sure about the fitting compatability so bailed out. Discovery 4 HSE
