Hi All

I’m looking at a 2011 4.4 Full Fat and the current owner is unsure if the turbo oil drain and brake hose recalls / modifications have been carried out.

If they have not been would JLR still do them free of charge or would I have to pay? If I have to pay what sort of money am I looking at?

Turbo drain is very hard to tell unless on a ramp with under trays off.

Two separate questions that needs 2 answers.

1) The brake pipe issue was a safety recall which any MD will be able to confirm by your VIN if it has been done or not.
If it hasn’t been done then they should agree to do it free of charge.

2) The turbo drain mod was never a “recall” and was only fairly rarely carried out free of charge while the car was still within some form of JLR warranty and proved to be a serious issue due to the amount of excessive smoke the car was getting.
You can expect a bill around £1k to get it done at an independent dealer, but more at a JLR MD.

Brake recall should be able to be checked via the same GOV.UK website where you can check the MOT history of the car. Worth checking both
Drain mod - boot it above 2500rpm and look in river view mirror. No smoke? All good. Smoke? Needs mod.

+1 on the brake hose recall about dealer or .gov website.

Some pics of the mod pipe and location can be worked out from the other photos. Look around the FNS wheel and you should be able to see it.

If a LR dealer put a 2011/12 cars VIN into his system would it show if the mod has been done?

Only if it was done at a MD.
I would expect it to appear on an invoice in some form if it came with any service history/ paperwork.

My recollection of the brake recall work is that it was recorded in the service book, where there was a separate section for recalls. As there was no charge for the work there was no invoice.

My 2012 car didn't have the turbo drain mod, and it didn't smoke as most of my driving was out of town and on almost every journey i would be over 2,500 revs so the turbo got used, so no build-up of oil in it. So depending on usage of the vehicle it may not be needed. Only Range Rovers since 1988
