Ok thanks. Why don’t they take it off rather mark it as an advisory? Seems a bit of a waste. |

Wow that tailgate looks bad, personally for that price, with that mileage and those issues I’d run a mile from that, there are others out there. |

We mostly use BCA who do fortunately have sites all over the Country so there might be something a bit closer to the OP, he'd have to go down there and bid himself and the fees for private buyers are significantly higher than for trade buyers with accounts but he could still find a decent one and save some money.

Corrosion is the enemy of later 322s, my 2012 WM was much worse for this than my 2004 4.4. The problem is probably worse in Scotland where there will be more salt on the roads and perhaps more rain. Rust on the rear wheel arches and around is more of a problem as the hindquarters are structural and in general the visible corrosion will be the tip of the iceberg. I'd be wary of the example pictured. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |

Did they change the quality of the steel on the later ones or something?, I had a 2005 which was rust free at 10 years old. |

The upper tailgate on my 2003 Td6 was spotless , but the 2011 4.4 tdV8 replacement had rust bubbles all along the lower edge , but in fairness to JLR they didn’t hesitate to replace it free of charge when I complained to the supplying dealer, who of course had missed it when he did the Approved 165 point inspection.

The later ones do seem to be worse. Maybe a combination of more scrap content in the steel and more environmentally friendly paint. My 2004 car had a few stone chips at 9 1/2 years old, but no rust on the bodywork. The underneath had been waxoyled from new, but was rust free after nine years (apart from brake hoses).

Wow that’s bad, sounds like late L322s are a bit like the late 90s-mid 00s Mercs that always suffered from rust on the arches, wings and boots, Mercedes upped their game after about 2005-2006 though and the newer ones don’t seem to do it, hopefully Land Rover have done the same with the L405!.
