I've been watching with interest fitting an Android Head Unit to my old L405. I can cope with the extra mic and speaker (they can be hidden) but the GPS arial is a different matter so I was wondering if its possible to split the existing GPS cable and supply the android stuff while maintaining the normal Sat Nav. Over the years I've had 2 different sony/tomtom double din headunits in 2 different cars and on both I put the GPS antenna under the dash and never had a problem Current

No. I haven't bought one yet, loss of dual screen functionality is no problem to me, I only ever show it off to people as its cool but its never been used to watch TV or a Video by a passenger. However, I'm not actually sure this unit is worth the bother for what I do, which is play a bit of Spotify, a lot of radio2 and I just updated the SatNav, sure its a bit slow but then so am I .The main issue I have is that people text or WhatsApp me while I'm driving and as far as I can see this unit does nothing to help. My daughters Ford actually reads out text messages maybe even WhatsApp - I don't know - but as far as I can see this unit doesn't do either. I actually do use Waze and Speed Camera alerts from my mobile occasionally if I need to.

If you are going to use Apple Carplay with Waze or Google Maps then a GPS anntenna isn't required as the GPS comes from your phone.

I know this is an old thread but my Sat Nav says no signal from the aerial. I bought a cheapo aerial on eBay I assume there is a sat nav lurking somewhere in my car that I can connect it to - where? The reason I am doing it this way is that if I try to remove the trim, drop the headlining and replace the original roof aerial (I suspect water ingress) I’ll break something - I always do. Geoff |

I started this but I don't think its so easy on an l405 as it is on an l322 so I put everything back together and will have another go, another day. In the meantime Waze on my mobile will have to do, well actually apart from the screen size its better that the standard fitment. I also have to program in drives but thats no problem as I am either local (no need for any nav) or travelling a distance in which case Waze is better. Geoff |
