nwmgc buys a diesel

After six trouble free (yes!) in the much loved 4.4 petrol FF (SWMBO literally shed a tear when it left) and after 47 years of exclusively petrol car ownership, I have bought a diesel engined vehicle. I've had it three days and, apart from trying to make any sense of the 'infotainment' screens (I'll post my pathetic questions in the 405 bit), I am rather taken. More anon!

A couple of first pre-cleanup pictures here.

very nice. Glad you went for the light interior.

Was your tailgate just closing/opening as it seems a bit proud (like you no doubt are today!! Thumbs Up)

Yes it does look odd in the picture! Still having fun with novelty of power assistance, of course.

There was me worrying about diesel - I'm pretty impressed by the engine, I must say.

BUT working my way around the screens it became apparent there was no DAB radio at all. Back to the dealer for two days to diagnose and then have a new module fitted. OK, well nothing major - just time going to and fro.

BUT then... noticed at the weekend the a/c was not cooling at all & only chucking out hot air - increased by dialling down the temperature & therefore increasing fan speed to make worse. Back to the dealer week after next. On the old and now extra-missed L322, I set the temperature, hit 'Auto' and never had to do anything else for six years!

Still, lucky it's an Approved warranty car. I hope. Rolling Eyes

Sorry to hear of your troubles, I have not had anything similar on my car. As you say its on AU so warranty should pick up the tab.

Now the engine..... well its just awesome isn’t it? Bucket loads of torque when you want it and effortless power delivery. Makes long distances seem short.

And so, stuff fixed, I decided that instead of the 100 mile round trip to the stealer, it was time to hop over to France to stock up on Christmas essentials (wine).

I really was impressed. Roads I am familiar with were seemingly effortless to negotiate (the power difference is certainly noticeable) and the very clever auto-wotsit cruise control a revelation. Plus: easy headlamp conversion! Miles to kph on the speedo! Will such wonders continue? According to the remote app. the fuel ran at 38.1 mpg, which compares well with SWMBO's Mini One.

Six weeks in, I have noticed that the tyre pressures are not keeping up evenly and one is losing more than the others. Probably the massive wheels, but I will check with the experts in the appropriate bit of the forum.
