SOLVED - Temperature error fault

Hi,
Hope you knowledgable folks can help.

I've had the temperature error occasionally since I bought 4 years ago.
This week it's back & looks to have killed it altogether Big Cry , yesterday all infotainment shut down straight away once ignition on and now starts to load up and re boots then instantly temperature error appears so shuts down again for a few minutes & keeps going through this cycle. Driving 1+ hr commute each way in silence listening to every squeak creak & whir is fraying my nerves Laughing

I've checked with my iid tool & a fault listed that I can see maybe relating to it is B12FE-13 Fan - general electrical faliure, circuit open. I cleared this & didn't re appear but fault still there.
any ideas where to start or is it likely to be the unit its self?
Don't fancy a £1500 bill Censored

I've seen mention online it could be TV module - can I somehow bypass this? & which one is it in boot??

Also with iid tool, should I use when engine is running? & would this show a live value when infotainment shuts down?

Thanks in advance,

Evening,
Any advice folks?

I had a look tonight & did a few bits, battery reset didn't clear it. Now I have no way of setting time / date though Confused . Can I do it with iid tool?

Also unplugged fibre optic from Bluetooth module, the screen stays on with Range Rover on it but goes no further & doesn't have the temp error pop up.

Unplugged wiring block from BT module & looks to be 1 pin with oxidising, any suggestion on best way to clean? I've ordered some spray contact cleaner but how to get into pin slot & around pins.

Agree with Mike on the cleaning stick, great.

For info on the locations of the system components look in the WM in the Wiki. you'll find it in

electrical/infotainment & Nav/locations.

There's a fairly comprehensive description on the systems. Also there are threads on the problems on the these systems on here, have a search, and include water ingress. It's seems to be known to cause probs with the electroncs in the rear nearside laod space cubby. The manufacturer's solution to that was a sheet of plastic over the bits in there. Mad Cheers

Fibreglass pencils are indeed excellent for cleaning contacts but be very careful when using them. The fibreglass shards break off (sometimes ping off if being used vigorously) and can end up as very painful "splinters".

You can also get them from model shops. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

Having optimistically tried the contact cleaner with no joy, finally had chance to look in boot yesterday all still bone dry Thumbs Up
Unplugged everything & took the frame out with the BT & TV modules on although couldn't get into them as I don't have a 7mm socket & small enough torx bit. Did notice though when I put back together that if I unplug modules then the screen stays on with the fault like the logo / flashing knob one. So hopefully it's narrowing down to one of these modules & as the TV module has a fan in it I'm erring towards that.

So, can I do the BT bypass on a 2012 as most refer to it on earlier ones? & I assume if I can then I can do the same bypas on the TV module (although no point at the same time)

I've also remembered that on phone calls people have said the line is bad & noisy so could also be related to a dodgy BT module. 2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue

MOST fibre optic bypass cable

Found a bypass loop available online, I'll give this a go, should be a safer bypass than risking the fibre optic cable.

Hi,
Not yet.
I'm still waiting for the bypass loop that's due soon, it's shipping from China.
I may be wrong but I'm fairly cionfident it's a module rather than the head unit from what I've tried so far as head unit works in every other way if modules are un plugged.
As soon as I get the loop & time I'll be able to investigate further.

I'll keep you posted.

So,
Spent all day freezing my Censored off, still no joy Big Cry

Stripped all the rear cubby out & tried the loop on each module one by one inc the amp & fault still comes straight up.

Still believe it isn't the head unit as it only fails if the fibre optic cable is plugged in & I'd have thought the head unit would still fail if it was at fault.

Plugged in the iiD tool to look at any faults & got all excited when playing in live values when I saw an option;
"Module causing MOST shutdown due to over temperature"

Ran that and................ No joy Crying or Very sad even when a shutdown occurred while live values was monitored I didn't get a fault or show values.

Have emailed Pat @Gap aboutit so hopefully he can shed some light. 2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue

So, I spent yesterday taking all the rear modules out again & bypassing each one & still no joy.
Put the bypass lead on BT module, TV module, Tuner (I think) & AMP left all other wiring in place.
Also fully removed all wiring & tested again.

Does anyone know the order the modules run on the loop?
so I could see if light was going through the optic cable one by one.

Is the CD changer on the fibre optic loop?
& how do I get it out? I can see plenty on early 322 but nothing on later with dual glovebox.
This isn't working but hasn't for a couple of years & didn't before I had the problem but want to eliminate it.

Having spent 7 months Banging Head stressing & getting frustrated with this I've finally Question solved it Thumbs Up
Spent today stripping the dash to get at the CD player that hasn't worked for years & fitted the bypas lead to it. (You need to remove the optic plug from the larger plug for CD) & I'll tape it up for safety.
Re attached the battery & tested I HAVE A WORKING INFORTAINMENT SYSTEM Exclamation Mr. Green Mr. Green
Now to rescue my CD's & re build the dash!! Thumbs Up

Established the CD player still works. Hooked up a battery & managed to eject the cassette.
Did a continuity test on the wiring& didnt get a reading.

I can happily live without the CD Thumbs Up 2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue
