Starting Issue

So, fatty, 2011 TDV8, been parked up for a couple of weeks. Started up fine, no warnings, stop at filling station a couple of miles from home and fill up. Get back in and won't start. Can hear solenoid click but no cranking! 'Low battery start engine' appears. After about 20 attempts it finally starts.

Has done this before but usually starts with one or two attempts. I've read the posts on the forum re starter motor and their failures about 80k (mine done 89k now).

Anything else I can do or should I just get a new starter fitted? Does a potentially low battery contribute to the issue? (it's on charge!)

the battery could be the cause as it was left for a while so I'd check the charge but its most likely the starter motor.. ... - .- -.

As Stan says, most likely the starter motor.

Site sponsors can supply new ones and there's a lengthy thread about how to replace it if you are willing to wield the spanners.

So just to wrap this up.....

I had the starter motor replaced .... no change! It wouldn't start. Further tests revealed the battery to be at fault, dropping to 5volt when cranking. Battery replaced and all good since.

So definitely well worth testing the battery ..... first !! Hopefully should be good for some time to come now. 2011 TDV8 Vogue
