Water draining from upper tailgate.

After it has rained when I open the upper tailgate a stream of water pours out of the tailgate left hand side - about a small cupful which goes down the left side boot cut out - at least it's not inside!!.
The drain holes at the bottom are clear on both sides.

Any ideas?

Ditto, just had the side trims along the glass on the upper tailgate replaced as had started degrading on the left side, which I think was the result of this. I think, as the above posts suggest, is a common issue. RR Vogue TDV8 Grey/Black

Have notice that the two glass rubber seals are somewhat loose as if they've been constantly nudged while washing. Is there a way of sealing them back in or a simple job to replace?
Still can't get my head around when you raise the tailgate where the water has been sitting and where it goes when you lift the tailgate?
How does the water enter the tailgate, there's no water leaking inside the car just a whoosh when you lift the tailgate. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

As I mentioned above ,I get this and mine is a 2002 model and does not have the rubber strips. Think therefore that this rules out them being a problem on the later vehicles .

All the rubber strips do is stop the water from a wet window, dribble on the parcel shelt when you open the tailgate.

Not there to stop water entering top tailgate..... they all seem to do it.

I make sure I open mine after washing and let the water dribble out.

Not great is it!

Re the rubber strips, I had them replaced by a specialist when in for a service. I don't think its a complex job although you need to be careful not to damage the glass. The specialist charged £50 labour and the parts were £55 so not a big job but does look better now. RR Vogue TDV8 Grey/Black

So basically all we can do is rust proof the tailgate and put up with it......?

My car is 2011 and has rubber strips down the sides of the glass. This directs the water over the metal part of the tailgate when you open it so it doesn't drip all over the lower tailgate. I looked at a 2006 car and it did not have any strips at all down the sides, only the one along the bottom of the glass. Did they add them later and in which model year?

This thread seems to have developed into two water issues - the management of the water down the outside of the upper tailgate, hence my comments on the rubber strips, and the more important one of water seemingly inside the tailgate. My car has no water inside and surely none should have this, so there must be a leak somewhere, perhaps the bonding of the glass has failed, or has anyone taken the roof spoiler off to look underneath? 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE
