Ello. Thinking of returning to the land of portable house bricks. Had a 2005/6 Jag V8 facelift interior (old exterior) odd ball Rangie back in the day, then moved to a D3 V8.

Now looking at a 3.6 TDV8 of some flavour, and basically confusing myself. Circa £10k seems to get a 90k Vogue in either "older" shape (wonky lights) or the later facelift 2010 model. Yes they're blatantly different, but I'm umming and ahing over which would be the better buy. Planning on running for a good number of years, will be a workhorse as well as a wafter, 15k or so a year.

Any feel for which would last, which is likely to have more issues - later interior tech? Is it worth finding the little extra to step up to a 4.4 instead of the 3.6 or indeed go for one of the many slightly cheaper £8k-ish 3.6s and be done with it?

Was it only the later 4.4s that got Adaptive Dynamics or is that on the 3.6 too? How does the handling overall compare between the two model years?

Anything I should look out for or consider when comparing the two model years?

I'm sure I'll think of other asinine questions, off to hunt brochures and read endless wikis and reviews.

Oh, if it's relevant, it'll find itself fairly rapidly with a tow bar, roof rails, quite possibly an expedition rack of some sort and kayaks / bikes / logs / life attached to it.

2010 3.6 had active dynamics too.

IMO the interior is better, the gadgets are better, but drive train is same so driving is similar.

TBO though, if I were ever to be insane enough to buy one again, I'd not pay a premium for the 10MY. __

I skipped the 3.6 and went from TD6 to 4.4 TDV8 as I didn’t want the worry of it lunching it’s turbos one day.....

I had the oil cooler leaking in the V on the 4.4, which is well documented on here.

Other than that....just the old issues.....rusty rear wheel arches....top tailgate.

Drive them both. Then decide if a few K extra is getting you where you want to be.

All good advice. I have not owned this model. However, I could suggest keeping an open mind during the search and instead having a different set of criteria based in number of owners, history and condition. Then simply buy either variant when the diamond finally turns up.

Yep, good point. I do have colour preference, but age and milage doesn't overly phase me - as the previous owner of 3 TVRs, I'm used to buying on condition and heritage rather than sticker price or bald stats.

I would seriously look at a 4.4TDV8 over a 3.6... If milage "as you say" is not an issue? Buy a higher milage 4.4 and have the silky smooth 8sp gearbox and the (in comparison) bullet proof 4.4 over the 3.6...

Can never object to more power, and flappy paddles. I don’t think I’d taken in the turbo issues were 3.6 alone, I’d assumed both engines suffered the same fate.

No sir, only the 3.6...
Don’t get me wrong, they are a good engine, but the constant worry of turbo, then potential engine destruction would easily push me into a 4.4... Which in there own way can have a few niggles! Just not BIG UN’S!!!

3.6 owner here. Wish I'd found a 4.4 instead tbh - better fuel economy for one thing.

Next one will be a 4.4 no question. 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

3.6 2010 VSE owner here of which I'm the second owner and have been very happy with for 7 years. never owned a 4.4 to compare with but mine may be for sale soon

I have had both and while i loved the 3.6, it did launch a turbo. The 4.4 is a better machine due mainly to the 8 speed gearbox and the adaptive suspension. The 3.6 can come with the digital dash but all the 4.4s have it and its make the car feel much more modern. And it looks cool too.

The 3.6 is a great car and i would happily own one again but the 4.4 is the one to go for if you have the choice

Hmm.... one says 3.6s have adaptive suspension, now someone says it's 4x4 only.... haven't seen any 3.6s with mechanical dash either?

Almost feeling sorry for the 3.6 boys right now.
