Hi, There is a port within the recess the alternator sits in. So the coolant flows through the block and then around the alternator, it then leaves the alternator and goes through the radiator. At least that’s how the coolant flow diagram looks to me but then I can’t see too clearly. I’ve attached a picture of the alternator recess I found on the net where you can clearly see the coolant port on the left and the coolant flow diagram.

I’m thinking along those lines as well. But I’ve just read up on how to remove the alternator casing and it doesn’t mention any o rings or coolant gaskets other than the o ring for the alternator.

If that cap is there it’s just another potential leak point.......... |

The one in the picture of the rear of the alternator housing. It’s the black plastic cap with a wire clip keeping it in. ______________________________
