Should my L322 2012 have an electronic tailgate similar to my old X5?
The FF merely shuts where the X5 had a nice ‘whirrr clunk’ just as you shut the tailgate.

When the top tailgate is closed it's just an old school spring-loaded catch that closes however when you lock the car a small motor drives a worm gear to securely deadlock the tailgate 2007 TDV8 VSE

Why over complicate things, its a tried tested and robust lock. There is enough tech to go wrong without overcomplicating a simple application. I had to take mine apart recently and it is extremely strong and well put together, I wish I could say that about all the cars components.
